Maddon wouldn't say who was starting game 4 today. When asked, he said he has an idea, but needs to talk to the pitcher first. To me, that means Lester.

Also, if you pitch Lester in Game 5, you can't pitch him again until Game 3 in the NLCS. The only way he would get a second start in the NLCS is if it goes 7. Pitch him in Game 4 of the NLDS on short rest, and you get him for games 2 and 6 of the NLCS.

This.

I think people are forgetting the Cardinals are in a pretty messy Game 4 pitching situation as well. Might they throw Lackey on 3 days? I know they've announced Lynn but IMO Lester on 3 days > Lynn. I don't think I'd have a problem going for the jugular if they win tomorrow. If they are down 2-1 I don't think you have a choice. You have to go Lester.

Also, is it possible he teams Richard and Wood for Game 4? Cardinals struggle against lefties.

Just want to point out the Cubs are starting four rookies in an NLDS game, that's insane.

Those four sure don't play like rookies. Anyway, it'll give the Cards the record for "most rookies starting for the NLDS opponent that you lost the game to."

Maddon is going to talk to Arrieta about getting through the 8th in less than 65 pitches today so he can come out and pitch a complete game in Game 4.

That has to be a record, doesn't it? Half of the position players are rookies...Man this season has been fun!

I know that our starting outfield had 2 rookies (the top 2 ROTY vote-getters) in Dwight Smith and Jerome Walton. A lot of the other guys, like Damon Berryhill, Mark Grace, and Greg Maddux, were in their first 2-3 years in the league.

I think this still has to be some kind of record, but we've been sort of close to this before, though that team had some aging vets like Rick Sutcliffe and Andre Dawson.
