Kagavi, you really need to get hired by the Athletic Dept. You've always got great ideas!

With that said, Our primary I-State logo is here to stay. I like this though. Get em with some of your other ideas, haha.

Strongly agree. The Athletic Department needs to hire Kagavi for his design ideas, historical research, and great writing.

Except for the fact that nationally when people who know anything about college sports look at the I-State logo they immediately identify it with Iowa State, it means the logo is working. Who cares if that's due to the success Iowa State has had in basketball in the 2010s. Do you really think the Duke logo would be nearly as recognizable if it wasn't for their 30 years of basketball dominance? It certainly isn't their football team that's making that logo recognizable.

As far as the I-State logo being "terrible", you are in an extreme minority in that opinion. Do people think the logo could be better (eliminating bevels, especially on uniforms, stenciling the logo, reversing the colors)? Of course. Do people want additional "character" logos like a cardinal logo or a tornado logo or - gasp - the whirlybird logo, in addition to the I-State logo? Of course (especially if it means the elimination of the "Bucky Cy" logo - which IS a terrible logo). But do most people want to eliminate the I-State logo? Hardly - especially since ISU has actually created a nationally-recognizable identity over the last decade with that logo.

Thats what i said..our logo is recognizable because of the success of our basketball team on a national scope.. what are you arguing? other than the fact you obviously love the logo for some reason.. and im in the extreme minority that don't like? I think you could do a poll that would tell you otherwise.

But it is kinda pointless to talk about on here anyways because there is an "extreme minority" on here that have any sort of clue about design or good taste..so i'll just leave this thread alone.

All I can say is overall I am happy with what we have..because after seeing people's opinions and mockups on here, it could be way worse LOL

No, you're missing the point - whose logo ISN'T recognizeable without considering the success they had on the field with that logo?

However, that design is cool, yet nags at me too, so I made this variation the following week to eliminate the redundant "I":

That is a cool concept. Good work.

These 16 combos (not including the first 2) were used at least once between 2012 and 2015.

I didn't realize Toledo had that many helmet versions in such a short period.

Although I like Toledo's color-set, the dark blue & yellow, I don't like many of those helmet designs. A couple of the simple rocket logo look OK, the number-on-helmet is hard to mess up, so that's fine.

All the versions with an overlapping U-T look poorly designed to me. The direct-overlap UT looks like it's "TU."

I hope if Iowa State uses multiple helmet alternates, it's better than that collection.

Here are examples of concept I have. It's largely a traditional look, but differs from current reality. Most blend a little white into the mix. One sample contains more '76 gold, the rest are closer to current gold.

These are some of my home versions. I have road versions of some of these designs, and those may benefit from the use of white in the home uniforms. Also designed a couple of "alternate" alternates. I'll post those separately, if this package draws any positive interest.

Per t-noah's request:

I started from scratch, using my initial template and revised based on most of your suggestions, including tapered helmet stripe and reduced used of white trim. I kept the gold closer to mustard than current yellow-gold, but that's easy enough to adjust.

Here's the standard home uniform, using the gold-cardinal-gold combo.

I can make other versions within the framework, including cardinal and white helmet versions, all-whites, tornado alternate helmet logo, and standard road uniform. If you have subtle changes to this, I can edit.

We change our names to the Celts, or the Ebdanians, Picts, Caledonians. I like where this is going...

I vote that we just have players SaranWrap their pads on. Also, no manscaping allowed - it's more intimidating that way.

Stick with I-State logo on helmets for the most part. Secondary logos can be implemented occasionally. But we really need to keep pushing our I-State logo and continue to build on the exposure our BB program has given.

Non-Iowa State fans don't have a clue as to what the swirly Cyclone symbol stands for. And the use of our mascot Cy is confusing as hell to Non-Iowa State fans as well. Some think it refers to Illinois State Redbirds or the Louisville Cardinals.

How is having the istate logo on our helmets building exposure specifically. If I am flipping through channels of games, I dont need to look at the helmets to know who is playing and neither does anyone else. You either already know who is playing because you know what games are on or you look at the score in the corner and read the team abbreviations. I couldn't tell you what grambling for examples uniforms look like but If I see the abbreviation I know who it is. Nobody is watching a game and saying, hmmm never heard of this ISU team but now i know their logo and then 3 months later turn the tv on and say....hmmmm that must be ISU because I recognze the logo. Thats silly. Besides you will see the primary logo next to the score and in and out of commercial breaks and pregame and halftime. If the Hawkeyes are playing and they take the logo off the helmet, do you really think nobody knows who they are? Besides, who cares if people dont recognize it, if they dont they probably arent sports fans so what difference does it make. and why do we care if some 70 year old woman in Idaho knows what our logo looks like? I guarantee that every college sports fan can describe our logo.

Say there is a store that has an amazing amount of Iowa State merchandise. It has t-shirts/sweatshirts/polos with every ISU logo since their beginning until the current logos. Which ones do you think would get the highest purchase rate?

In my humble opinion our current stock of logos is among the most vanilla and bland that Iowa State has ever had. The "I-State" logo wouldn't make my Top Ten.

Similar to what has been said on here, the logo has become somewhat recognizable not because of its greatness, it's become recognizable because the basketball team has become national for the past six seasons.

Here is a list of Iowa State's logos.

I wouldn't mind doing throwsback with a ISC logo for one game. It does at have to every year either.

WOW- the 1984-2006 window of time was a dark, dark era for logos at ISU. Just awful
