I dig this color of gold - maybe could be better with a little more yellow in it, but better than the yellow mustard we've had

The main issue with the more metallic "true gold" is that, while it might look good on a helmet, it never looks as good on fabric. It makes merchandising hard, because instead of gold t-shirts and hats, you end up with tan. I would much rather have yellow than tan.

Of course, it looks similar to Bruce-era combo, probably explains the appeal for me.

Here is a mockup I made with some images I could find. Not quite exactly what I would like but an interesting concept based off an all black Arkansas uniform I found..

Color might strike at the heart of the matter, no matter what uniform design is next. Some are OK w/ current gold. Some want darker gold. Some hate the all yellow (gold) uni look, some I guess like it. I'm hearing the derogatory phrase 'ketchup and mustard' a lot again.

I agree the shiny Packers yellow is a little too bright and candy-like. I'd prefer a more muted, darker yellow with a matte finish.

49ers was our Gold for long long time..no more a true natural gold..like the metal. Honestly bright yellow and red just don't look good together we are made fun of for looking like Ronald McDonald..Our colors are Cardinal and Gold not Redish pink and bright yellow.

So I made this illustration, our approximate current Cardinal and Gold scheme, vs Cardinal and 76 era Gold (which is slightly darker than current shade). Thoughts?

Saw the first two (only two?) ISU-iowa freshman football games, both held in iowa city (1967 and '68). I remember to this day how surprised I was by the gold pants iSu wore in the Stapleton era. Very cool. They were 49ers gold and looked terrific.

Have not seen this eBay page before, chock full of past iSu football helmets.

On our current white helmet, the gold trim there is pretty much the same shade as the 76 gold., give or take a touch.

I was just at the Leid Rec Center tonight for the volleyball camp. On the wall they have depictions of Cy from 1965, 1983, 1997, and the current "Badger" CY. The '90's and current versions of CY are bright red and yellow. The 60's thru 80's Cy are DEEP Cardinal and dark Yellow Gold. I would say "Gopher" gold is probably closer to correct for our true shade of gold. Before anyone says "well now we're just going to look like UM Gophers"......their red is more blue in it making it purplish. Our Cardinal is a deep true red, we just need to darken it up from where we are now.

I don't think yellow is as bad as many people are saying, it just depends on the design. I would guess most people on here like the gold mbb uniforms.

And I don't understand the call for the "old gold" to come back. They will not make a retro-ish uniform our normal look.

**** "real" gold. That **** stained, hard-to-match, overrated color can blow me. If you hate McDonalds, that's fine. McDonalds wouldn't want you anyways because you're a ****. Mustard is the ****. Jack Trice wore "yellow." Earl Bruce's squads wore "yellow." Hoiberg & Johnny were all up in that "yellow" ****. That's all I need to know. Own it.

For the ones in this thread, I've been use EA Sports Teambuilder, which is several years old at this point (I'm not aware of a newer similar site, but I might be mistaken). It works fairly well for basics, has good flexibility for mixing color. Quite extensive choices of helmet and uniform styles. It is kind of limited in some aspects (example, only allows black or white shoes and socks).

Here are examples of concept I have. It's largely a traditional look, but differs from current reality. Most blend a little white into the mix. One sample contains more '76 gold, the rest are closer to current gold.

These are some of my home versions. I have road versions of some of these designs, and those may benefit from the use of white in the home uniforms. Also designed a couple of "alternate" alternates. I'll post those separately, if this package draws any positive interest.

Make these helmets the same gold as the pants -- give me the tornado logo on the helmet -- and these should be our primary unis -- along with a cardinal jersey for home games of course. Best unis we've ever had
