I wish we would have modernized this concept, rather than "I-State" out of nowhere.

We are not I-State -- we are ISU. The "State" is weirdly prominent and frowning. This was what Bruce and the team wore to the Peach Bowl, too.

Having the block "I" and the ISU at the same time is perfect.

That with updated colors, a sharper font, and a gold outline instead of a cardinal or white one would be killer. Anybody want to mock that one up?

I did something like it once for helmets...

My MS Paint skills are limited, however.

Add in the 80s tornado and the walking Cy for our nickname and mascot logos and we'd have been set for the next century. Alas, we have what we have.

I do not disagree with you. This ship has sailed however. We are keeping the I-State logo. I personally like it (the current I-State), and have grown to like it. It would be nice to do this block I (ISU) as a 'regular' retro though.

Do you have inside knowledge that we will always keep the I-State logo? Who said that ship has sailed? I'm not disagreeing with you, I think it will not change (right now) but look at our history..seems to me history says the logo will change sometime. I have gotten accustom to the I-State logo too, but that also doesn't mean it's a good logo IMO.

I still think the modernized logo that Kagavi created is the best thing we could go with. It's a one color logo (could have C/G/W versions) that would be completely unique (since there isn't another Cyclones mascot). There are however Illinois State, Indiana State, Idaho State.. and they all have the ISU abbreviation too.

Make these helmets the same gold as the pants -- give me the tornado logo on the helmet -- and these should be our primary unis -- along with a cardinal jersey for home games of course. Best unis we've ever had

I used to agree with this, but those unis haven't aged well. I do like the colors. Retro isn't really in right now. And Oregon is the only school that can get away with whatever it is they do. It's all about updating the retro idea if that makes sense. It's clean and classic with modern accessories (think white helmet with stripe, red facemask, short angular accents as opposed to long stripes).

Oklahoma State's are perfect.

I agree with you there. I think what I like about them is:
1. The colors - really like truer gold than current yellow
2. I like the use of the colors - i like white accents with cardinal and gold

If we could use these colors like they do but modernize the uniforms, that would be perfect. OSU is a great example. They do an amazing job IMO.

I don't think you'd have to darken that yellow color much at all; as I've been saying- if you take that same color and give it a matte finish as opposed to a reflective shiny gloss it'd make a big difference. Give the logo and red face mask a glossy sheen to make them pop. It'd look pretty badass.

Kinda like this with a slightly brighter red:

And I'd prefer to think of those throwbacks as more of a "classic" look than retro. Classic will always look cool, IMO.

I'm the other way (on the matte helmets). I hope they never do matte helmets again, no matter what color, don't like em. I prefer the gloss or shiny look.

What if the STATE portion was horizontal and not "arched"? Would it have more appeal in your opinion?

I can't find an example online, but I remember seeing a set of rules regarding the I-State logo, and "forbidden" uses of it, that has state in un-arched form.

I just think it screams "I-State" (which we are not).

I also dislike spelling out large words in logos.

Tweaking the shaping a little does not solve those problems.

Well, you can never say never. But a little over a year ago I had a conversation w/ the AD about uniforms, color, logos, etc. The biggest take-aways I had, is that the color scheme will not be changing, and the I-State is here to stay (a lot of time, effort, and branding went into it, he explained it rather well to me). Secondary logos were not up for discussion either really (but that could change w/ time, IMO). And that this time around, the current coaching staff will be able to decide what kind of uniforms they want, within the above mentioned parameters of the current color scheme, and primary I-State logo. And he said basically, 'that's the way it should be, let the coaching staff decide what it wants, within those parameters, not us fans on CF, or other'.

I don't think yellow is as bad as many people are saying, it just depends on the design. I would guess most people on here like the gold mbb uniforms.

And I don't understand the call for the "old gold" to come back. They will not make a retro-ish uniform our normal look.

Darken the current gold , maybe even just a touch. I sometimes like the 'pop' of the current yellow/gold, but get frustrated with its presentation. They could also darken the helmet a bit but then it wouldn't match the best.

The BB team and the all-golds there. To me that looks OK.

Cy500, Good job on these! It's kind of fun, isn't it. Of these pics, I like the first two/three best. For the first r/r/w one, I like how you illustrated the tapered helmet stripe. If we have helmet stripes, I think they will be tapered. I liked these two best as they didn't have any white in the numbers. I don't think white, or any other accent, looks good in the numbers, anymore, and they are harder to match well w/ any potential combos.

On the second pic, y/r/y, could you put the tapered helmet stripe on that, 2 outer red, one center white, just like you've got on the third pic (minus the white accent around the numbers)?

Other than that, if you want, lighten up the gold a bit more, on those first two/three, to better match our current gold, see what that looks like. And, I think 2 of the 3 colors (between helmet, jersey, and pant) need to match. So for example, your pic 4, w/r/y, doesn't work so well. Great job.

Thanks for compliments and feedback. I'll try to tweak that GCG sample, with details per your request ... I do like the tapered stripe design better than single-stripe, which I used as a fallback in the first few of this concept.

I'll also adjust the gold, overall. I might go back to square 1 and re-develop it all in a consistent way, now that I pinpointed a direction. Appreciate the comments.

And I agree about the BB team and the all-golds there. I think most of us like that.

Absolutely abhor all-gold/yellow unis in either football or bb. Detest it almost to the point of gagging.

However, I understand my point of view is but one among many and likely a minority one at that. So, in the famously explicit wording of Roseanne Roseannadanna, "Nevermind."

Respectfully, there is not one person in America who confuses us with those schools ( I know you did not exactly say that) and if they do- they know nothing about intercollegiate athletics and that opinion does not count. If you hate that logo- I am cool with you saying that but to say we are confused with those schools in absolutely untrue IMO. I have been stopped in Boston, Wash. DC and in LAX and every single time, someone mentioned how they love Cyclone Basketball. The logo is known and I would hate to throw away the most visibility that this school has ever had w/ a logo just to scratch an itch that we need to use a tornado on a helmet. (which is cool if we do).I don't like the tornado look and I doubt our players and recruits care about the logo as much as they care that they get variety in uniform packages.

Nobody is confusing us with any other school anywhere except in grade schools in Idaho perhaps
