At least as long as you're willing to drop an arm, a leg, and maybe a kidney.

Both are definitely "special occasion brunches." :)

I miss the breakfast buffet at the restaurant in west Ames that, I think, is now some church. It was just west of the trailer court on the south side of Lincoln way. The place is a wreck now, but they used to throw down a killer buffet. They had an omelet chef who made your omelet, to order, right in front of you. Now the best breakfast buffet in Ames is at cdnlngld's house! Dad(me) gets up and makes omelets to order bacon, hash browns, sometimes pancakes and waffles galore! We tried to make a family tradition of omelet Sundays....

There is no place in Ames that has a good breakfast buffet. It's sad, really. Hy-Vee's is mediocre, but good for the price. Olde Maine used to have an incredible one, but now, it is pathetic. Much like their entire food menu restaurant in general.

My favorite - The grove pancakes with bacon. Or, short stack with omelet from Perkins. Outside of that, I'd say just hold off and wait for mongolian buffet to open at 11am.

Took a chick on our first date to the Grove a few years ago. She'd never been, and I told her she had to have the pancakes.

I'm gonna be honest, she was way out of my league. But we dated for quite a while after that, and I'm convinced it's because of the Grove pancake.

What is the appeal to a breakfast/brunch buffet? Do that many people enjoy luke warm scrambled eggs that have been sitting around for an hour?

With that being said, Americana does have a wide variety of options and is a good option. Although if I ever go back, I would just get the bloody mary/mimosa buffet and enjoy my drinks with a lot of the garnishes.

Best breakfast option in Ames is The Cafe. It's not a buffet, but if I'm eating out for breakfast, I want to eat something I couldn't have thrown together myself.

If there's a better way to eat scrambled eggs I'd like to hear it.
