It used to be a great brunch but the food and selection had really gone downhill. Haven't been back in at least a year.
When it first opened the Sunday brunch was phenomenal.

Yea Olde Main used to be a solid place to eat and the breakfast buffet was great like you said, however it has gone downhill. The new management just seems unorganized and not putting much effort into rejuvenating the place. Hope things turn around though as its a cool venue and a good location right on main street.

We did an Easter brunch there a few years ago. No one was super impressed. It was fine, but kind of pricey for the quality.

HyVee's breakfast buffet, especially for the price, is excellent.

Oh man....we did that one a Sunday this fall and it was not great. Food was cold and running out. And the place was over run with people.

Not a buffet but if you want a great breakfast in Ames hit up the Grove Cafe on Main Street.

I heard the same. Granite City has one. I would rate it just okay. Machine Shed is great, but they their sausage and biscuits is really sausage and dinner rolls. Just not the same.

I haven't been to Granite City's buffet for awhile, but it was excellent when I went. Not cheap. Perhaps it has changed.

I've been to Granite City's a couple times. It's decent. I wasn't blown away, though.

Not buffets, but The Cafe and +39 both have really good breakfasts.

I always thought that, for a chain restaurant, Shoney's breakfast buffet was really good. I don't know if they're even around anymore though. I know the one in DM closed a long time ago.

Surprised to hear about Hy-Vee's brunch because the ones in Des Moines are usually really good for only $15. Wait until they get the Market Grille finished (not sure if the East Ames one already has it but the West Ames Hy-Vee is still in progress I know) and give the brunch a try. The Market Grille brunch at the Urbandale Hy-Vee is excellent plus you can pretty much eat from any station they have including the Chinese and Italian plus you can get your desert to go after you stuff yourself.

I heard Americana has a killer brunch. I've never been, though.

Americana is awesome. Like $30 for brunch and unlimited mimosas and bloody marys. They have a made to order grilled cheese stand that is pretty cool.

Also, they're not brunch but Mullets and The Royal Mile both have really good breakfast with some more unique dishes.

I've also heard good things about Malo, the new restaurant in the DSM Social Club.

The ****? How do you make grilled cheese to order? "Um yes, I think this time I will try it with two slices of bread with the cheese melted in the middle, thank you."

Had Royal Mile for the 1st time Sunday.

Really good.

Biscuits and Gravy were excellent, even though they looked nothing like your normal biscuits and gravy.
