Are you an ISU Grad? If not why do you pull for ISU?

One point of contention during the heated arguments I've had has been that for the most part most ISU fans I've encountered are grads or former students, while the majority of Iowa fans are not Iowa grads.

Help me get a better picture to see if there is any validity here, and sound off.

Did you go to Iowa State? If not, why do you support take the road less traveled and support the Cyclones?

I went there and am a grad. That is why I support the team. I guess I am supporting the hypothesis.

I grew up 12 miles from Ames...My grandpa used to own the three Hardee's stores in Ames and was a big cyclone booster at the time, therefore I started going to games with my dad and grandpa when I was four and have been a Cyclone ever since...

I'm not an ISU grad. I started following the Cyclones when I was 10 or so, and it was the start of the Johnny Orr era. Listening to the basketball games and post games on the radio got me hooked. I also went to my first football game when ISU played Oklahoma when Billy Sims was playing for them. Listening to Pete Taylor, along with some of Johnny's post game comments, probably sealed the deal.

Went to Wartburg to play football since as a 6'1 O-linemen ISU wasn't interested. Might of had to do more with the 10-flat 40 as well.
Dad is veterinarian and I spent the first 4 years of my life on campus while dad was in vet school. Been going to games since I was born and brought my daughter to her first game at 6 months old.

Mom was an ISU letterwinner. Dad is also an alumn and Ive been going to Clone games as far back as I can remember.

Plus I like to think I have common sense which eliminates me from joining the Iowa fan base.

I grew up in Kansas as a Big 8 and a Jayhawk fan. When I moved to Iowa it was
natural to start rooting for ISU. I always hated the Big 10 so becoming an Iowa
fan was never an option. After 13 years of being an ISU fan crack would be easier
to give up.

I go to UNI, but I have a good reason for liking ISU too: The Cyclones are not the hawkeyes. lol

I was born in Iowa City and grew up in Muscatine (I've had to listen to eastern iowan kool-aid influened, pro-hawk talk my entire life.) Grew up being taken to hawkeye games, but I found the light...

It was a combination of Fizer & Tinsley in bball and Troy Davis & Seneca Wallace in football. I was a borderline fan before...but around the time of Seneca's play "The Run", I became an DIEHARD Cyclone and will be for the rest of my days on Earth.

I was a diehard, oblivious Sqwakeye fan until I received my acceptance letter in 1995. That came in after the Iowa-ISU football game, so the 1995 game was the very last time I cheered for "the other school" in a matchup. The very first time I cheered for the "good guys" against my former beloved team was the men's basketball game with Willoughby, Cato, etc. as we drubbed the Hawks that year. First attended August '97, graduated August '03. Never looked back and never once regretted my decision. And what was once a love for all things Sqwak has turned into a festering hatred!

UNI grad, my dad went to ISU and I have been going to games since I was a little kid and have had season tix ever since.

Grew up a sqwak fan, then in 1992 attended ISU and have been die hard ever sense. Family members that are for the sqwaks ask why I changed, I usually respond with, "Yeah, well I used to crap my diaper when I was a kid, too, and I grew up and changed for the better"

I never even considered going anywhere else, I knew I was going to ISU from the time I was in elementry school.

I grew up in Ames. Watched Earl Bruce on the sidlines, got to meet Dwayne Crutchfield (sp?), and cheered for Barry Stevens. My parents moved my senior year in high school so I lost in-state tuition and had to go to college in Nebraska (please don't hold that against me).

I was a fan of the Dark Side until I was about 12. Most of my family were Squawk fans. I became a Cyclone Fan after meeting Fred Hoiberg after his sophmore year. I truely believed that changed my opinion about ISU. I loved the way he played the game and the heart and determination.

I didn't become a football fan until I went to my first game. I don't remember if it was 1995 or 1996. All I remember it was against Nebraska, there was snow on the ground, and Todd Bandhoeur (SP?) was our QB. We got killed that game. But I was hooked...

Now I have most of my family cheering for the Cyclones. Well most of the time. I did have to get in the face of a couple Cyclone fans Saturday for getting in my old mans face for wearing a Hawkeye sweatshirt. He wore it cause he thought they would win. In seasons, where, ISU has a chance he wears ISU stuff, but he didn't feel like we would win. He didn't say anything to them, didn't look there way, yet they had to be idoit fans of ours using the F-bomb around kids and being stupid.

Actually started out a hawk fan but when I was about 10 I finally had enough of the "Hawkfreaks" in my family. Became a Cyclone fan and never looked back. Didn't go to ISU but my wife is graduate. Lived in Ames while she was in school and loved every minute of it.

I was raised a cyclone fan, graduated for ISU, lettered in football for ISU, and am very proud to say I have NEVER owned anything that was Hawkeye.

I graduated from ISU in '03, and most of my family went there as well. Not that I need a reason to never cheer for the squawk, but my husband would divorce me if I even thought of cheering for Iowa.
