Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

TJ is the fallback for the fallback choice, you only offer him the job if you have been turned down by others. The Homerun hire is Thad Motta, still young only 53 and one would think he has to be getting the itch to return to a program with a record of success and less pressure than OSU. If Motto says "no, happy in retirement" we need to give the shot to someone, that has success at the lower levels for a number of years at multiple schools. Someone like the former Wisconsin coach, a system coach that can find talent and get them to accept their role in the team, would much rather go that route then someone like the Drake coach.

If you cannot find that guy, then and only then do you offer TJ the job, and hope he that what has been going on at UNLV the past couple of years is something else than recruiting or coaching.
Tldr: if no coach in the entire country wants to coach at Iowa State then you hire TJ.

It’s going to be as exciting as a funeral around here if we hire him.

Haven't weighed in much on coaching change yet but maybe fans can agree that 'change' can be good and is just necessary sometimes, without it meaning you dislike or don't appreciate the good things our present coach stands for and has achieved here. I remember when McCarney was let go. I felt he had done so much to help the program and was hard working and loyal to the Cyclones. Yet, I also felt it was time for a change. Guessing JP would feel this is somewhat a same scenario. I think a change would be good for CSP too. What do Covid budget shortfalls play into it? We're all guessing or wondering if that's the deciding factor.

All I know is, after just watching Michigan vs. Ohio State, I miss good quality basketball. Those teams scored in the 80's and 90's and I STILL thought they were both playing sound defense! I suppose some would suggest that ISU can't be on that level 'consistently', that its easier to recruit to Michigan and Ohio State, and both may be somewhat true on a consistent basis. But we got that taste of multiple NCAA tournament bids, and that taste is hard to remove from your mouth. Its just a bummer for all involved, and we know not every team can be in the top 20 every year. But JP surely sees the program needs a shot in the arm. More talent and more talented depth needed. I think the reserves for Michigan and Ohio State would be starters for us. It will be an uphill battle for sure, regardless who is the coach. Roster retention is the least of my concerns. I still think CSP is a good coach, great person, etc., but 'change' is sometimes just inevitable.

I watched a replay of ISU vs KSU in the Big 12 Tourney Ejim's senior year, after I watched a little of yesterday's game. Holy sh@#!. This year's team is so bad I can't even come up with a word for it.

Can't worry about Hunter, Foster etc. This **** has got to change ASAP.

There is a 90% chance CSP is fired this year. I say 90% only because it isnt impossible he is retained, but it is highly highly HIGHLY unlikely.

The financial challenge- there will be some level of donor chip in, JP will finance the rest. He is already financing 20M shortfall due to covid, another 2M on top is not a big deal.

Meanwhile we go round and round and drive traffic for CW lol

Exactly, people who will be mad if Foster transfers and Hunter goes elsewhere, also want to fire the coach two years ago.

They didn’t come to Iowa State because they wanted to experience Ames water. They came to Iowa State because as Foster out it, the staff puts guys in the league. And the kids committed to this staff, it’s not a real stretch to think they aren’t feeling all warm and fuzzy about their time in Ames

it doesn’t matter who the coach will be, it’s going to be a completely new roster.

Correct, if steve stays, nobody is going to stay for another year of this and another year of backward development. If he stays he’s going to have a hard time fielding a team.

If he goes, it’s very likely the new coach cleans house.

Nobody is going to be mad if kids transfer, look what Prohm has done to these guys. He’s ruined a lot of them.

Why settle for TJ, just because he was on staff here before and would take the job? I never said he is our last choice, but we can do a lot better than TJ. 25 and 26 at UNLV, never won a playoff game at any level in 3 tries. Give him credit for taking a team the year before that went 4-14, but he also only got them to 17-16 and 2nd place the next year. This year they are 8-3 and 5-7.

Otz might do just fine at ISU, maybe it IS the way to go, but it screams "Easy Hire" to me.

I have no problem with him being on the list, but a full search should be done to identify candidates.

But the more of these ive watched over the years, the more you see that 'fit' does matter. If Jamie thinks that TJ has that 'fit' component, that's not a small thing. So if he gets the job over some other midmajor coaches, I won't have a huge problem with it.

Not sure why everyone think Matta would be a slam dunk hire. Yes he had some good teams at tOSU but part of him stepping down was due to health issues. Go read some of the articles out there, I'm not sure what his health is like today but based on some of the things that were reported I'd have concerns with how the grind of the Big 12 would be on in him.
everyone doesn’t

Wait a minute, they just swept the mighty Spartans of San Jose State. Right now they have a conference record of 7-7/10-11. And of those 7 conference wins, 6 are against opponents with a combined conference record of.........................................................6-40. There three out of conference wins are against Kansas State by 10.......mighty St. Katherine's and Benedict Mesa.

100% agree. If we do a full search and end up with TJ, I’m good with it.

If Pollard targets only him like he’s done before, I won’t like it. Always best to see who’s out there. But like others have said, Pollard will go cheap so if our options are more low-major coaches, I’ll take TJ.

Fit is more important that anything. That is why TJ should have been hire when Fred left. As we can see now even an incompetent could have coached that team to some success. TJ was the best fit at that time and had the best chance of keeping the momentum. He probably isn’t the best fit now. This is a major undertaking at this point. If you hire another flavor of the month like Prohm it’s a crapshoot whether they’ll turn it around. Steven Leath should have his ass kicked.

So no to a coach that is a proven coach at every college coaching level. We want to take a chance on a coach who is young and has limited success for a short time period. Got it.

Beilein is 68...how long are you expecting him to be successful at ISU?

I personally don’t disagree with you; however, TJ is the “safe” hire and will be the choice in my opinion because:
1) Ties to ISU and proven he can recruit to Ames
2) Pollard will not bring in a “name brand” coach, he has always gone up and comer
3) A mid major has failed for him twice already
4) TJ will cost half as much as Phrom

hindsight is 20/20 but I think TJ would have kept the Hoiberg momentum rolling. It will be much harder for him now, but I think with budgets and such Pollard sees it as the “safe” hire.
