I did get the flu shot last fall. I did get something but not as bad as the Influenza A that a coworker got. She said she slept for 4 days straight - the sickest she has ever been. We got something in our house but not quite that bad. What was notable about it was the cough took like a month to finally go away.

Got the shot and have avoided the flu, but caught the cold that other people have had that has seemed to linger a couple of weeks. Kid got it first, them me, then the wife. Been about a month of someone in the house being sick. There was a day early in the cold that I just felt wiped out. I finally woke up with zero congestion a few days ago. Wife still has some lingering symptoms.

My dad brought me over his copd for inhaler and that is helping. Breaking up the hardness and n my lungs. I’m either shaking or sweating n got shaking and sweating. The one thing I will say that’s positive is the diet it has put me on. I can’t eat anything. So gonna drop a few pounds before summer. Yay

My wife bought some mint smelling tablets for the shower. And when she gets congested, she'll throw one in and says they offer some relief.

You really shouldn’t do this. Your dad was most likely prescribed his inhaler and SABA’s can effect BP, HR, blood sugar, and (rarely) can cause seizures.

Please don’t take other people’s prescription meds for off label use without consulting your PCP. While you will most likely be ok if you have no preexisting conditions this is generally a bad idea.

Obviously everyone is unique and there is no definitive answer to avoiding colds or flu. I had a PA at my doctors office see me about 15 months ago for a cold/flu/COVID type sickness. She said use Flonase every day. You can buy it generic now. So I tried it, and for me it has been a miracle cure. Eliminated the drainage and sore throats. I haven't had any cold symptoms since. 15 months maybe doesn't prove anything yet, but I just know I have felt better. Just an FYI.

Don't worry OP, I've seen every episode of House and I think you'll be fine.

Make sure you tell your PCP about this so it’s in your history. Long term Flonase use can cause major issues with your adrenal gland.

Kinda a weird recommendation that I would never advise but they know your history

That was the other thing when I had it, I had zero appetite.

I don’t mind losing a few pounds but I’m losing muscle also. So that kind of sucks.

It’s crazy the only place I went out last week was Friday night and I got it, nobody else around me got it. Not sure how this type of stuff happens. I mean the girl I was talking to all night said she can’t figure out how we both didn’t get it. Weird how sickness works

You won’t lose much muscle over a few days.

What do all these fancy people with an MD, OD or PA after their name know. I get my medical advice from the Tweeter machine.

Never had a flu shot. But I have Tiger Blood and am rarely ever sick. I'll get a sore throat once like every five years. My 2-year-old seems to have daddy's Tiger Blood as well- until the last three weeks or so. She's just had a helluva time trying to kick this influenza. She's been to the doctor twice because of intermittent fever that comes and goes every other day. The pediatrician was like: welcome to the club. Tough it out and don't bother us unless she's rocking 101.4 for more than 24 hours.

No flu, but I think I had bronchitis that I just got over a week ago. Had sinus issues and tons of hacking/coughing for 2-3 weeks that just seemed to linger. I pumped the vitamin C and ate tons of fruit, but glad I'm finally over it. I know there's been a lot of stuff going around lately.

Going to knock on some wood saying/typing this *knocks on wood* but the last time I can remember being actually sick with some kind of flu or virus was around late December 2019 as I attempted to watch our bowl game again Notre Dame in my basement while trying to break a fever. It was frustrating as I would break out in a sweat overnight and not have a fever in the morning then about mid day would get the chills again and the fever would be back and I repeated that cycle 3 nights in a row before I finally could go fever free. I still had an appetite and didn't feel bad in general as I would eat and want to do things, but just got chills in the afternoon and wanted to take a nap when my fever returned.

Not going to judge anyone for making a choice on what shots they get. Everyone's immunity system is different or what they feel is or isn't effective. I used to never get a flu shot as an adult until I had kids and have gotten one every year since as our pediatrician recommended it not only for our kids health but for our own because they will likely bring home viruses from daycare and school. I am also up to date on COVID shots but I did skip a year of 1 of the boosters (no reason why I just never went in to get it) and as far as I know I've never had COVID unless I was symptom free or maybe my late 2019 sickness was possibly that. I'm not a germaphobe and like to think I have exposed myself to enough common germs over the years to have built up good immunity. I don't remember getting sick much before having kids when I was not getting the flu regularly. Can't say for certain it's because I stay up to date on my flu shots but also can't say they have prevented sickness either since I didn't get sick frequent enough before too.
