The real "flu" is brutal. Having a virus where you have a fever, etc (what we typically call the flu) sucks. The body aches I had with the actual flu were on a whole nother level. I seriously thought I was dying. So, been getting the flu shot since. I don't ever want to get sick with it again.

Make sure you tell your PCP about this so it’s in your history. Long term Flonase use can cause major issues with your adrenal gland.

Kinda a weird recommendation that I would never advise but they know your history
I tried Flonase at the recommendation of PCP for my seasonal allergies. I got terrible headaches so I went back to Zyrtec.

Dr. Internet seems to think I can get a measles shot if I can’t figure out if I had the shot or the measles. I know I had German measles and mumps so two out of three. Do you concur? We have a lot of Amish in southern Iowa and kind of surprised that quite a few do vaccinate. They also are frequently donating blood when I do.

Holy crap this stuff is brutal. Normally the flu goes away pretty fast for me. This time I can’t shake it. Just miserable
Mid-January - Influenza -A. Even with my shots, it kicked my a$$!

Missed two days of school; should have been more, but I had to get in to meet new students at the turn of the semester.

It was the worst - I honestly feel it took 3 weeks before I felt 100%. 0/5 stars - would not recommend.

Couple options, you can have your dr do an MMR blood test to check to see if you have antibodies for measles, you can also see if your state has an ISS which is an immunization support system that would possibly have records.

If you were born between 63 and 68 you also will need one anyway and can always get a booster. Your PCP will know if you have any issues that would prevent you from getting a booster or shot but I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t if you are in good health and have gone though the above.

Thanks so much! Will keep hunting the house a bit, suspect one of my siblings took the relevant records as my sister raided my parents’ file cabinet. She and my four brothers all had the measles before I was born in 1960. One of my brothers gave us all German measles. I recall the mumps. I know I gave ISU my records and my mom would have copied that at work but can’t find that anywhere.

If I can’t find my records, I will ask my PCP. Want to make sure I figure this out before he retires, he’s over 70, but I am not due in for a few months. I think he’s the only doctor we have within 50 miles that didn’t get his medical degree in the Caribbean.

You really shouldn’t do this. Your dad was most likely prescribed his inhaler and SABA’s can effect BP, HR, blood sugar, and (rarely) can cause seizures.

Please don’t take other people’s prescription meds for off label use without consulting your PCP. While you will most likely be ok if you have no preexisting conditions this is generally a bad idea.
Prescription pain killers are okay to share though correct? :mccaffery:

Never get the shot and never get the flu

I think some of it is a genetic lottery. I know a dude that never went to a dentist until he was 18, had gross looking teeth but says he never has had a cavity....so who knows?

Lots of mandatory vaccines done in the 60’s to 70’s in Iowa. Check your school’s vaccination records of vaccines given.

I called the district office and that person seemed confused. Knowing the district, they never digitized paper records but I might try the school nurse.

I got sick two months ago. About 5 days to get mostly over it. Wasn't the worst but not great.

Parents go without ever taking their kid to a dentist? I'm so confused.

Ask for immunization records not vaccination. Remember my parents giving the school my immunization schedule. Don't know if that will help.

The efficacy is usually between 25-50% for the flu shot. I still get it in case it might work. Far from bullet proof.

Preliminary data from South America indicates that this year's vaccine was in the low 30's.

Here is a link that shows the effectiveness of the flu vaccine by year since 2009. This year isn't on there yet.

I specifically said my immunization record since I knew I had rubella and mumps. Lady at district office still had no idea if they kept records then but I know they did. Tried to explain I just wanted to know if they retained them and she seemed to have no idea or care enough to find out.

Had noro a few years ago and aside from fluids leaving my body at tremendous rates for about 24 hours the thing I remember the most was I had a bottle of water next my bed and at room temperature it felt ice cold.

It was like I was tripping.
I completely hallucinated when I had it. Wild.

My wife and I both had that (probably) over Easter in 2022. It was total hell for both of us, luckily we were at my parents' and they could handle the kiddos. No one in the household got it, thank goodness.
