Does a volunteer church worker count as a teacher?

Probably always been this bad. They say people who were abused as kids typically are the abusers in adulthood.

I don’t have any stats to back this up (on work WiFi and don’t want to look it up), but I’d be surprised if the percentage of adults with those tendencies has changed much. With the advent of new technology and social media and how connected things are, it’s much easier to get caught. Guessing a lot of the adults in these stories would’ve gotten away with it even just 20 years ago.

Edit: will also add with online media it’s much easier for us to hear about these incidents even when they occur in far-flung parts of the country.

I'd use the same logic to say it actually is more prevalent these days. I doubt the percentage of adults with tendencies has changed but the ease of access to minors is way higher. You can find anyone on snapchat or whatever social media sites and start grooming without throwing red flags to parents. At the same time, more are getting caught due to the digital trail being left behind. You can also be a chomo without any actual physical interaction because of phones.

Sure. But in terms of those who already had access to children like teachers, preachers, etc? Those are probably about the same, its just easier to catch them.

No doubt it’s easier for them with the technology. But as you said comes with the tradeoff of an easily traceable digital footprint.

It’s just always struck me as something where if a predator wants to do that, they’ll find a way, technology or not.

I'll disagree. I think cell phones make people with those tendencies act on those urges at a higher rate than they would if everything had to be a physical interaction. People tend to be more bold when they're hiding behind a screen. I'm not a chomo expert by any means though.

Edit: If anyone wants to get nauseated, read up on the story Wren and her mom Jacklyn. The numbers/saves/interactions from adult men on their Instagram page is sickening and kind of puts into perspective how widespread the problem is. We're talking hundreds of thousands of them. Mom is purposely posing her young daughter in suggestive situations for years now to make money and gain a following.

It’s so crazy how all over the board they are with sentences. Some get probation and others get 33 years for the same thing. I think 20-40 years is the appropriate length
I watch a ton of documentaries, as well as shows like "Inside The World's Toughest Prisons" and it always amazes me how diverse sentencing can be - both across countries and even within the same. And that's just for normal sentencing, not the drastic variations handed out by juries or judges within the same country for the same crime.

It can be something like first degree murder of 5-10 years in one country to death in another. Murder penalty of 10 years and something like shoplifting penalty of 15 years in the same country. There are places where you can go to jail for smoking weed and do more time than if you raped or killed somebody.

Not exactly sure.

Some might have to do with age. 13 is extremely young compared to an 18 year old. Neither is right, just one is near consent and one barely had pubs.

Nowhere and Everywhere
This has been around. I can't tell you how many women I've known with who had a story. Teacher. Cousin. Neighbor.

This **** has been going on, but at least society is now ready to call it out.
Hell it was common and out in open in my small town in the 90s. It’s crazy to look back on how many mid/upper 20s low life’s were dating or openly messing around with 16 year old girls. Apparently a job at the packing plant and truck/camaro was attractive to certain teenage girls. A teacher my sophomore year took a senior home from after prom and it just “wasn’t spoken about”.

We’ve finally hit a point where society will call this out for what it is.

Edit. Forgot to add a girl in my class my sophomore year dropped out after she got knocked up by a 33 year old neighbor. This stuffs been around forever.

Wonder who gave her the legal advice to plead guilty to get the absolute max sentence.

Carroll County has had a few rough years for students and their educators. Wasn't all that long ago Vaske at Kuemper got caught with a senior and slapped on the wrist.

I'm sure the choir teacher when I was in high school who immediately "officially" started dating a senior after she graduated wasn't crossing all kinds of lines while she was a student. Nope definitely not.

I've heard about this. I refuse to look into it.
