I always thought there had been a Valentino's at one time, but I asked the manager of the newer Valentino's out in North Ames if there had ever been one in Campustown... but he said no.

He was a younger manager so he probably was born sometime in the 80's.
I can confirm that there was a campus town Valentinos - I went to ISU in the 80s. :)

Loved Minsky's. Was sad to see it go!
Minsky's is still around in Kansas City. Sgt Peffers in Omaha is very similar. Both franchises trace their founding back to people originally connected with Godfathers. The menu's and quality are both a step up from Godfathers.

There are several Minsky's locations down here in KC. Pizza is good but the service generally sucks at the two locations I sometimes frequent.

I LOVED Minsky's pizza when I lived in KC. I worked downtown for a few years, and I had one about a mile from my house. Ate there almost every Friday. Bacon Cheeseburger, Prime Cut......oh man.

If you asked me the top five things I miss about KC, Minsky's makes the list.

The roof of my mouth still hasn't healed from burning the **** out of it on Pizza Pit sauce after the cheese would slide off in one piece. Never was a fan of that place.

My brother works in downtown KC & we were both Minsky's fans from our college days. Funny that for as many times as I have visited him in KC over the years that we have never gotten to a Minsky's there. The closest was after the ISU-KU football game this year cuz there's one in Lawrence. However, we decided to eat at Joe's KC BBQ instead.

Early 80's Pizza Pit was cheap pizza especially using the coupons in the Daily. Valentino's was for a nicer place, same with Minsky's. Not sure when Great Plains showed up but it's now where I go if I have pizza in Ames. I want to say Great Plains was around in the 80's but I'm not 100% sure. Heck I still miss Happy Joes out on Duff(?) One of the floods took it out a few yrs ago.

Great Plains was definitely present at some point when I was a student 80-84. Yes! PP coupons in the Daily were a godsend. We stopped in last summer and the place is much too classy now :-( Don't even remember Valentino's -- must have been out of my price range :)

Whoa, haven't thought about that place in a long time. Showing my age but there used to be a Shakey's by the bucc's arena on Hickman.

And that was the first time I had ever been to a Pizza Ranch. We used to go to Shakey's on Army Post Road and the one by the arena. Pulled up and Shakey's apparently had closed and they opened a Pizza Ranch in the same location.

It used to be buried on the back side of the mall, so might not have been on the mind of most students.

Still miss Home Team.

When my dad came to visit me at college - Valentino's buffet was usually where we would eat. I loved all their food - but their dessert pizza (especially blueberry) is the best I have ever had.
