I just do not get the people that list Pizza Pit as some sort of great pizza. It really must be just nostalgia and ordering it while half drunk down in Welch Ave. Station while you were in college. Their pizza isn't any better than a frozen Tombstone pizza in my opinion. Way down on the list here in Ames if you ask me.

There was a place called Pizza Inn (I think) on LW back in the day. 5 bucks would get you a huge 1 topping large that would take care of 4-5 stoners pretty well.

Pizza pit pizza is not good, their sandwiches and wings are pretty damn solid though.

Ty Stewart bought it. He managed McDonald's on Lincolnway for a while, lost his job there. Sold insurance, and did financial planning for awhile quite that and bought Valentino's. I think when Walmart started the rebuild south of that is when he sold it. Now he is a golf pro at Hyperion I believe.

When he took over it went way down hill. I think he spent more time on the golf course than he did at Valentino's.

That's quite a list of jobs. McDonald's, insurance, financial planning, pizza, golf pro.

All Ames pizza conversations begin and end with GPS&D and if you disagree it's because you just haven't tried the right thing yet. Hint (the thick crust is for rookies)

Pizza Pit pizza is meh, the Reuben and Pepperoni subs are big winners though.

Dominos was trash, but 3 mediums for $10 was tough to beat.

The Valentino's buffet was pretty good in the 80's, but really sucked after that.

Olde Georges was a serious contender.

Home Team huger huge and deep dish square pies helped through many wasted nights.

Ames Godfathers always sucked, but bad Godfathers is better than most.

Happy Joes BLT or ham and sauerkraut were outstanding.

The Minskey's in Nevada and Ames are/were not the same as the ones in KC. Just the same name, sorry to burst any bubbles.

Was that on the corner of LW and Welch? There was a place there that I loved that had some kind of nondescript name like that.

I can go with that as I have never tried their sandwiches/wings. I really do need someone who loves their pizza to explain to me why their pizza is worth a crap though. Absolutely blah, nothing special whatsoever.
