In addition people who are saying what is the difference between the regular season and the bowl game? Well how about a whole month. Unless it is a catastrophic injury like a torn ACL or something like that a whole extra month to heal fully and get back into peak shape for the combine is huge. It isn't just about time to heal, it is about being at your peak when you go on display for all the decision makers for the draft.
We lost against Tech on Nov. 13 (pretty much cementing a Cheez-it / Liberty / Texas bowl appearance and losing any shot at conference title), so if we had players declare for the draft and move-on then, they would have had an additional month to train and recover.

Who the hell do you think pays for all this stuff? The free tuition, new facilities, free meals, bowl game trips, NIL money? Yeah, we pay for all this including his new NFL contract but we should just shut up because they don't owe us anything?

Are any of these things up to fans on if they want to pay for it or not?

You are absolutely free to whine about how you feel Breece Hall owes you something because you don't believe he lived up to the investment you as a fan made in him. That's 100% your choice to be the kind of person who does that. Nobody is stopping you or silencing you.

Don't believe he whined but you sure are. Are you projecting something?

It's not only about injury risk. He probably used the last month to get healthy and train for the combine. Something he would not have been able to do until now, had he played in this game. Training for the combine is quite different than football practice and he would not have been able to do both.

He likely realized there was nothing more that he could show on the field to help him improve his draft position, and only downside risk.

However, if he can improve his 40 start/technique, get healthy, and peak from an explosive standpoint, he can move up in the draft.

Good post and I understand. But having been an ISU fan longer than Breece has been alive.....our history would dictate that Cyclone fans, coaches and players would kill to be involved in a game like last night. And here we are with players opting out. I guess maybe as fans we are being pulled in different directions and not sure to be happy for just being there, or a little upset the best team wasn't on the field.

Are you kidding? He's literally complaining that because he paid money for all scholarships and free meals and bowl trips and what have you, that the players owe him.

That's more whine than in Napa Valley, guy.

The difference for Breece between running a 4.4 and 4.5 could be massive for his draft position and be what decides whether he makes a good amount of money and A LOT of money on his first contract and running backs have a lot more limited of a shelf life than most positions. Cannot blame Breece one iota for pushing to maximize his performance at the combine.

And you are delusional if you don't think that defenses keying on Breece didn't open up the passing game.
That's hard to measure and I wish it were easier. I assume it made things easier for the offense to pass when things were keyed on Breece. But at times I think having Breece caused Manning to hand it to often to Breece when Purdy was more than capable of carrying the offense with bigger chunks through the passing game.

Two of Purdy's best games passing came in his sophomore year before Breece became the workhorse for the last 2+ seasons.

I'm sure many will scoff, but having a workhorse back that was excellent created a crutch for Manning to just call safe run plays that gained 6 yards rather than let Purdy work more often to gain 8 yards.

I never said he owes me anything personally and I totally understand the business side of his decision. I'm simply saying we as fans have a rifth to feel however we want about it, we are the ones who drive the Financials of the sport.

I hope Breece does well in the NFL, that being said, I'm not structuring my weekends and what games I'll watch based on when he or guys like Lazard and Montgomery are playing like I am on Saturdays .
I'm a fan of the college team at Iowa State University first and foremost.

I agree and understand Breece's opt out. However, you wont convince ISU wins easily if he had played.

Remember when guys were drafted based on the performance made on the football field? "The guy was the best player on the field but he's too slow, do not draft." (Oops Lazard) Now how fast you run on carpet with no resistance or defenders make or break you. Its incredble.

Again I do not fault Breece one bit. ISU and us fans are getting an up close look at what will take down the bowl system. Bowl apathy is as high as it has ever been. And that's ok, it probably needs to be taken down and reconfigured anyways. Why do the bowl games have to be 4 weeks after the season?

I just wish players could move on whenever they feel like ISU can't offer them a lot more (IMO Tech game), and then after that they basically get treated like a letterwinner graduate. I completely understand the decision to train for the NFL as you want to heal up and the differences in 40 times could mean a lot in terms of when you get drafted.

Then regarding the games, if they want to show up to the bowl games or any subsequent regular season ones, they can watch in the student section or buy a ticket. This way I believe would suit the interests of each party the best because the players can pursue their interests, and the fans don't need to have these opt-outs distracting from bowl season.

Personally, I enjoyed how he eliminated TV, corporate sponsorships, and the bigger donors in order to boost up the players' debt to him.

Ok, that's fine if a stud wants to watch from the sidelines starting October 12th. We pull their scholarship for the remainder of the semester, no more free nutrition and traveling with the team on road trips then. Sounds fair to me.

I remember when it came out after losses to Baylor and Hampton that maybe Jamaal Tinsley had shut it down after the regular season so ISU would be done for the year and he could get ready for the NBA......people were just outraged. Didn't matter if it was rumor or the fact he played...........people were still up in arms. I think me included. Times have certainly changed.
