This is not accurate. The Joel Osteen analogy is correct, but only as a small fraction of "Don't take the Lord's name on vain" full meaning. Using the name of God as a profanity is 100% part of it as well.
and that doesn't make any sense. Accoroding to whose intrepatation? That would mean God is a fragile, insecure, authoritavive entity. Is that the type of God anyone should be following?

JFC, God sent bears to maul a bunch of kids that made fun of a bald guy. He's fragile AF.

I think he realized his mistakes in the Old Testament, which is why he sent J.C. and the Boys to do some serious retconning in the New.

1. "According to whose interpretation?"
- this teaching is universal among the Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Judaism, Islam).

2. "That would mean God is a fragile, insecure, authoritavive entity."
- fragile and insecure, no. Authoritavive, 100%

While this is meant to be funny, I'll tweak things.

I've got my own **** going on, therefore I don't feel the need to worry about or police what other people are doing. That sounds exhausting.

if you think this is dumb, maybe policing anyone’s language is dumb. Be it religious, sexual, racial etc.

If you disagree, I’d love to hear your logic.

When I get to whatever afterlife there is and the criteria for enterence is based on the amount of times I used the phrase JFC, I'm guessing its really not that great of a place.

I'm also guessing Jesus himself has used the phrase JFC (with facepalm) many, many times after witnessing some of the stupid **** people do.

Can we have this acronym *** out? I hate when I see that as it makes me say it out while reading. It's crazy how much it's used anymore. Way more offensive than most words that are blocked on here. I know I'm the crazy old man
Have you tried not reading out loud? That seems annoying to the people around you.:jimlad:

the thing is most Christians miss what don't take the lords name in vain means. It is not saying his name, if that is the case then God is some authoritarian insecure prick. No, what it really is about is people like Joel Olstreem using the lord to take advantage of people.
While you are technically correct (incidentally the best kind of correct), this isn’t how it is typically used in American Christian sects. American Christianity is more concerned with identity signaling than fidelity to their own religious texts.

So, common usage of taking the Lord’s name in vain actually does preclude things like JFC, Jesus ******* Christ, Jesus H. Christ, Donald J. Trump, Christ on a Crutch, etc..

He literally admitted he wanted it censored because it was against his religious beliefs. The J was what he found offensive. That's pushing his religion on everyone else.

And yes, doing that absolutely is garbage
Thank you for defending us all against religious fanaticism

I think it’s acceptable.
