How absurd was it giving that contract to Dak?
It was, but they also had no choice. A QB like Dak is the worst to have, a lot like Cousin's and a few others, good enough to get you into the playoff, but not good enough to win you the SB. Great stats in most games, but he has those games when you need him to play great, where he pees down his leg and sucks. Guy is a solid 7 among NFL QB's, but has won nothing and is going to cost you a lot of money in the end, but teams are worried that if they replace them and let them walk, then the next guy will not be any better and may be worse.

Dak is Kirk Cousins part 2. It's a good gig if you can get it.

It’s been said, but Brock deserves at least what Daniel Jones, Tua, and Trevor Lawrence are at. All three of those guys had big seasons in 2022. Jones and Trevor took their teams to playoffs and won games. Good for them. Those guys all had the affirmative action of being first round picks.

Brock is on the back of 2 NFC Title appearances and 7 mins away from winning the Super Bowl. He’s making peanuts. He’s incredibly marketable, and I’m sure Toyota, Ariat, and Paw Patrol are making it worth his while.

Yeah we want him to win the big game and play with good weapons. Managing the cap is important, but that’s not his job. Giving up three 1st round picks for Trey Lance was GM malpractice, and Brock has bailed them out.

Why does he have to be the guy that makes the sacrifice? Maybe the QB market is changing, and you do get more with less. Why is that his cross to hear?

He can be creative with his next deal, but given his injury history he should max out what he can get now.

Jon Gruden says it very succinctly, and I agree with him. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it's amazing to me how so many folks on this message board feel they know more than the former NFL Coach of the Year.
I loved every part of that video. And I agree with him.

But he didn’t specify how much he’d pay Purdy. And Gruden the GM doesn’t have the most stellar record.

Please stop using Lawrence, Dak, Tua, and definitely Daniel ******* Jones as a benchmark on what to pay Purdy. Those are awful, albatross contracts.

So what? That’s not Purdy’s problem.

Brock’s role is to get paid as much as possible. These takes that Brock should sacrifice his earning potential are *********. That’s something NO ONE would do or accept outside of extraordinary circumstances

The market is the market. Those are his aged peers. Why should Brock make less than them for better performance?

Here are better performers than the albatrosses and their roughly avg yearly pay:
- Goff $50M
- Allen $43M
- Burrow $50M
- Mahomes $45M
- Love $54M

Sure there’s a big difference for $50M x 4 years and $50M x 8 years.

I’m not trying to dig at you. Where do you see Brock’s contract heading if not in line with those guys?

FWIW, at that Brock Fest thing last summer when he came back to Ames for that youth camp, I am bout 95% sure I talked to his agent (didn't know that's who it was until someone told me later). He seemed like a legit good guy and did not give off the "sports agent" vibe at all that you would kind of expect when you hear "NFL player agent".

To be fair, it isn't just on this message board. It is all over the interwebs...

If I’m the Niners I aim for $40-$43M AAV with a backloaded contract. Otherwise I hold off a year extending him.

If I’m Brock, I might try for $45-50 with a little more up front. Maybe a little lower salary, but a higher signing bonus.

None of the guys you listed’s cap number is over $50M this year. Highest is Kyler at $49M.

If I’m Brock then I’d think about playing out contract. 2 CCG’s and a Super Bowl at age 24. 49ers can test the free market. $50 million is the minimum. Brock Purdy literally saved the franchise from the Trey Lance disaster. He should not have to continually get screwed because of that decision.

I would blame the defense more as a cowboy fan. Dak has produced pretty well and I'm not Dak apologist. Really just need Jerry to die.
You have any faith at all his kids will do better?
