Kansas had a higher peak, barely, was it as sustained? Don’t remember, wasn’t following Big12 back then.

Yes. 2008 KU was a legit national power that had built up for about 4-5 years. A couple possessions from playing in the BCS title game.

Our best season ever had a loss to ******* Louisiana

I think a lot of the disappointment comes from decades of irrelevance and thinking we have a very small window for big success. Hopefully the window is much longer than we think and we get more used to all of the winning. Need to appreciate what we have and harder, realize that this isn’t the only year we have a chance for a special season.

The problem is that we lose everyone next year and who knows how our defense will look. If our offense looks the same next year and our defense gets worse (highly likely), we aren’t winning many games at all.

I think the floor is 6-6. There is enough continuity and talent within the program to do that. If some guys on defense can step up they'll probably win 8.

After the last of the Hoiberg era died, I quit planning my days around cyclone sports. I mowed the yard listening to Walters in the first half. Had the TV on mute working on school in the 2nd. Watched the final drive live before dinner with the family. The jumping high five with my daughters (twice) after the TD was the highlight of the game for me.

It helps knowing I didn't waste 4 hours of my life.

I'm actually looking forward to next year in a weird way as long as the staff stays somewhat together. Having zero expectations as an Iowa State fan is the way to go. I never felt comfortable going into this season.

Yeah I'm interested to see some new guys step up. We have to find a way to get better on the offensive line.

As much as I love being on cyclone fanatic, the people that are Iowa State fans that have never heard of the site seem to be more grounded in their expectations. My wife is not on here, she hates when we lose, but she can generally go about her day.

In some respect s, I feel like being on this website is like binging cable news during an election. Every minor slight or triumph is amplified.

I don’t really get why I’m like this but Iowa State losing effectively ruins my day. I hardly ever played football and I don’t even go to college at Iowa State, but going to games since I was born means that I take Cyclone football way too seriously. I mean this is the first time Iowa State has really had football success in my lifetime. I shouldn’t be mad considering this is the golden era but here we are. I also make myself look like an idiot during games
Your avatar is of the coach-- right there that's over the top. Have one of you or your kids or something else. Get away from the idol worship.

As you say you are a tavern Clone (big fan but never went to school there) so another reason to back off a bit.

Finally, acting like an idiot at the games....I hate asking what you do to make you look like this to others. How old are you? Sounds like you do need some perspective overall and hope you can get some.

Too much of my happiness and mood relies on Iowa States football performance. Too much of my identity is tied up and how well we do. I cannot change the outcome of anything, yet I get so frustrated with things that happen outside of my control.

How do I learn to take a step back and realize collegiate football is not what defines me?

Unfortunately a lot of people got sucked into thinking our breakout last year was all due to us taking a step forward as a program. The reality is it was mostly due to COVID and how well we were able to manage it. We saw all of this two years ago and nothings changed. We may eventually take that step forward but we haven’t done it yet. View this team as a 7-5 or 8-4 team and the loss will sting a lot less

Cyclone Fanatic, all of the podcasts and twitter followers build me up to an unstable level every game. I'm almost at the point where I can't enjoy a victory without feeling like there is more..

Definitely going to try and be on this website less. Avoiding cable TV and unfollowing political people has helped me not be so mad about politics

College athletics get more meaningless each passing year for me. I hardly pay any attention to any games outside of Iowa State anymore.

This is exactly where I’m at. Heck, even ISU sports doesn’t have much of a spot in my life anymore. I’m on CF mainly because it’s a bad habit I can’t kick, plus I enjoy a lot of the non sports threads.

I still enjoy going to games in Ames but didn’t watch a single second today as I had a great day with my daughters.
