Judging by Montes tweet, saying he can't wait to play UAB next season, my guess is we see them in the coast classic.

It would make sense, as it would definitely bring some attention to the tournament. And we're the best team in the tournament so not sure why we'd have to face a team better than UAB in the first game

Iowa State plays Va Tech and UAB plays Illinois in the first round. I'd expect a UAB-Iowa State championship game.

UAB should also help SOS as there is a good chance they will be in The Valley next year, which is a big upgrade over CUSA. UAB is set to be pretty good next year.

I think UAB is getting booted from C-USA because they don't have a football team. I didn't know the Valley was looking to add though. Would the MVC take another school in addition to UAB to get to 12, or just play with 11?

We would only face UAB if we beat VaTech and they beat Illinois, or if we both lose to those teams.

I admit, I had not heard of UAB to Valley (or any other conference movement — the no-football aspect makes sense).

Not that geography makes sense anymore, but is that the best/closest place to go? If the football element is out, that probably rules out Sun Belt, which would be a lateral move for basketball.

If Valley does add UAB plus one other school, who would that be?

Obvious move is to get North Dakota State. Already a member in football, and basketball addition is no-brainer.

They can't stay where they are without football and the Valley it's a really nice fit competition-wise. It was reported by the Birmingham paper today that there is mutual interest. Previous reports have said that the Valley has talked to its membership and taken a poll as to whether they preferred 18 or 20 league games for next year.

I think they'd play with 11 for a year or two and then add a 12th member. Murray State? Belmont? They've made overtures to Memphis in the past, but they are committed to FBS football, I would imagine they'd ask again there first and end up taking one of the others...

Memphis seems entirely unrealistic for the MVC. I think NDSU makes a ton of sense. The Valley doesn't lend itself too easily to a division split, but with 12 schools you could play home-and-homes with everyone in your division (10 games) plus everyone in the other division once (total of 16 games) and then, if you wanted to keep the schedule at 18, have two schools in the opposite division that you get home-and-homes with per season.

UAB going to the Valley next year will not result in "should help SOS". The Valley is going to be even more Valley next year IMO.

Plus, there is still a chance CUSA gives a waiver. They should do that and add Wichita St too.

I was going to delve further into the UAB realignment, but we could have a thread in general-college for it, if someone wants to start it. (I'd be willing to contribute)

Back to the scheduling — what is the actual possibility of starting a home-and-home, of any kind, for 2015-16? Does Hoiberg prefer flexibility, instead of locking into home-and-home? Example is vs. S.C. neutral in New York (as terrible as that result was) or the Sioux Falls game that's scheduled? Does that approach possibly open opportunities for bigger fish to fry down the road vs. teams that wouldn't do home-home (I'd like to get a school like Duke in Chicago, with a team that might actually be able to win it).

No chance Wichita leaves for CUSA. It's a worse basketball league spread all over the country.

NDSU is not going to happen for the Valley it's out in an island by itself and tied to SDSU. The Valley isn't taking the Jacks.

Anyway, sorry to hijack, back to schedule talk...

I agree Wichita to C-USA has no chance at happening. Now we can argue the merits of adding NDSU and SDSU but I could see the Valley adding them in the next 5 years. Both are already football members and this is the same conference that thought adding Loyola was a good move.

Here's an idea that I just thought of and I'm sure would never happen...

What about scheduling a game @ UMKC or Missouri State. Somewhere close so we don't have to pay a ton to go there.

The purpose of this game would to get our guys to be able to go into a rather quiet environment and play a ****** team and see how they do? This would help with our games against TTU and TCU.

That's probably more likely than UAB plus NDSU. (I honestly don't think Valley is a good fit for UAB — but for a football-less school that could be in CUSA, American or Sun Belt, it'll be tough. Maybe need to get into a southern conference that's relatively competitive, and dominate it.

I do wish Iowa St would step up their scheduling. Getting into good tournaments is likely difficult, but scheduled games should be possible.

I wish we would really try to cut the >225 RPI and get 1-2 tough away games each year depending on where the Iowa game is.

If all goes as planned for LSU, they will contend for the SEC next season. Since Kentucky and Kansas have yet to face each other within the challenge I assume they will play, and we will probably draw a road game at LSU. That would be a big game.

Rematch with UAB would get some attention. Wouldn't be a resume booster, but could help clear some demons.

as others have said, would like to start a home and home with another P5 conference school.
