This is certainly a diversified list:

10. Motley Crue - Hilton 1989
9. Allison Kraus & Union Station - Wells Fargo
8. Garth Brooks - Hilton, mid 90's
7. Tim McGraw with Faith Hill opening - Iowa State Fair early 90's, right about time the two became an item)
6. Van Halen - Hilton, early 90's (Van Hagar)
5. Brad Paisley with Rodney Atkins & Chuck Wicks - Wells Fargo
4. Alabama - Iowa State Fair early 80's when they were in their prime
3. George Strait - have seen him in Hilton, Jack Trice, Iowa State Fair
2. Billy Joel - Hilton I believe 1991
1. Genesis - Jack Trice on my 21st birthday, 17 years ago today

Disclaimer: I missed the '93 Pink Floyd show at JTS, otherwise that would probably be #1.

Metallica on this tour, for whatever reason, was much better than they were on the 04 tour with Godsmack. I still really enjoyed both shows, but the one this year in Moline with Down and The Sword is easily the best show I've been to. Great setlist, great energy, and great pyro and lights.

Ozzy/Rob Zombie was really good, as was Rob Zombie/Lacuna Coil, Disturbed/Fireball Ministry and Disturbed/Killswitch Engage/Lacuna Coil. Lacuna Coil and Fireball Ministry are really underrated bands.

I'm not a big fan of the band, but Nickelback does put on a really good show. They have some really good riffs, but it just seems that their stuff is so commercialized it gets watered down to suck. Hinder, Hoobastank, and Chevelle were also there. I was only looking forward to Chevelle, but they disappointed. I expected Hinder to be bad and was correct, and I was shocked at how good of a show Hoobastank put on.

I'm only 24, so I missed the 70s and 80s rock bands in their primes, but seeing some of these concerts you guys have been to makes me really wish I knew Doc Brown so I could hop in the Delorian and check some of these shows out.

Foreigner!

"Yeah! I saw those guys in the Meadow Lands with Bryan Adams; that was a kick *** show! I totally copped this feel off this passed out broad when they were playing Urgent. Every time I hear Urgent on the radio I think of that girl’s boobs, covered in vomit.â€￾

Haha My favorite concert would probably have to be Green Day back a couple years ago in Cedar Rapids. Say what you will about the American Idiot album, but they played for hours and covered all their old stuff too.

Tough to put in order but have seen some great shows:

-Dave Matthews Band (with unnanounced special guest Neil Young), Ben Harper, Jack Johnson as openers, evidently My Morning Jacket opened also - Vote for Change Tour, Hilton, Ames IA, 2004
-Billy Corgan - solo acoustic (only show that I know of) - Metro, Chicago 2004
-John Mayer - Schubas, Chicago, unnanounced until a few hours before the show and had a buddy that worked at this ~200 capacity bar that got me in
-Tom Petty (with Stevie Nicks) - Bonnaroo 2005?
-Black Crowes, Jack Johnson, O.A.R. - Bonnaroo 2004, all were playing at the same time and caught bits of all three great shows within two hours
-Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers - anywhere - one of the best live shows you will ever see
-Coldplay - UIC Pavillion, Chicago 2003 - right before they got really big
-U2 - Target Center, Minneapolis 2001 - Elevation Tour, this show was during finals week. My buddy picked me up immediately after a 4pm final, drove straight to the show from Ames, watched the show, drove right back, got back around 5:30 am, stayed up until 9 am to take my next final. AND made Dean's List.
-Greyboy AllStars - Aggie Theatre, Fort Collins CO 2009
-White Stripes and Flaming Lips - Aragon Ballroom, Chicago - New Year's Eve - clips from this show are on the Flaming Lips documentary

Interesting side topic: shows that you could have easily gone to, but didn't for some stupid reason
-My Morning Jacket, Red Rocks 2008 - heard was an epic show, had just moved to CO and was pinching pennies
-James Brown - Harrah's Stir Cove, Council Bluffs 2007? - This show was about a month before Mr. Brown passed away, one I never got to see
-The Nadas final show @ Peoples - I was fishing in Canada with my grandfather, so I made the right choice, but it was tough to miss that one

10: Radiohead at Outside Lands last year in Golden Gate Park
9: Drive By Truckers in Iowa City 2005
8: Girltalk at the Fillmore SF 2007 - Biggest dance party I've ever been to
7: Broken Social Scene at 1st Avenue in Minneapolis 2005
6: Grizzly Bear at the Fillmore SF last night
5: LCD Soundsystem at Coachella 2007
4: Phish at Alpine Valley 2000 Summer tour - Back in the jam-band days. Oh Phish tour, I attribute my lack of short-term memory to you.
3: Rage Against the Machine reunion at Coachella 2007 - Never been so excited for a show. First time RATM played together in five years
2: My Bloody Valentine reunion in 2008 - Loudest show I've ever been to. Pants were flapping from the noise from the speakers, it felt like being inside a hurricane
1: Radiohead at Alpine Valley 2004 - They always kill it live.

Wow, good memories, fun times.

Going along with top 10 lists, what are your 10 favorite concerts you've been to.

Here's mine.

HM: Paul McCartney - not my favorite style, but great to see a legend.
10. Rascal Flatts/Blake Shelton - got to sit on the floor and had a good view.
9. Plain White Tees/Relient K/Hawthorn Heights.
8. Less than Jake - They played a free show at ISU and I was coincidentally playing tennis nearby so it was cool to play tennis and hear a band that I liked.
7. Local H - For a 2 guy show at Veishea, they rocked. Show had some good mosh pits going as well.
6. 3 Doors Down/Sevendust/Creed - This was way back when 3 Doors Down were nobodies. Fun concert at Hilton.
5. Anberlin/Relient K
4. 38th Parallel/Stellar Kart (bash on the farm) - anytime I've seen 38th parallel, it has been great. Like their music, they have a good message and I knew the guys in the band.
3. Pax 217/Slick Shoes/Supertones
2. John Reuben/Pillar/Sanctus Real/Relient K/Supertones - Awesome lineup
1. Relient K/Switchfoot/Supertones - back when all 3 bands were nobodies. My first concert as a teenager and we made our way up to the front. One guy in our group even won a dance competition.

You must be a Relient K fan.

Some of the concerts that I liked over the years:
1. John Denver solo (with guitar) in Hilton as a last second replacement.
2. Fleetwood Mac
3. REO Speedwagon/Styxx/Journey - Styx was best
4. Eric Burdon and the Animals
5. Coldplay
6. Prince

When Neil came out and they sang "Rockin in the Free World"...wow best concert memory ever, although I dont remember Jack Johnson but I do remember the others

This would be VERY high on my list...
Other great shows I've seen

-Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Ames 2003. Jack Johnson opened, as this was before he was a mega star, and it was an all around great show.

-Rage Against the Machine, Alpine Valley 2007. Queens of the Stone Age opened, but I was really hammered during their set. Rage absolutely rocked the place. 60,000 people screaming "**** you, I won't do what you tell me!" was insane.

-Drive-By Truckers, Omaha 2008. We were right up front and they played an absolutely amazing set, just completely kicked ***. The Felice Brothers opened, and they are also a great live band.

-O.A.R., Ames 2005. I'm no longer much of an O.A.R fan, but this was before the All Sides album (which sucks), and they were on their game at this point in time. We had also spanked K-State earlier that day, so it was an all day party full of tailgating, good football, and good music.

-RHCP, St. Paul 2006. They played a great show, with a stunning encore (I Could Have Lied and Give It Away).

-Drive-By Truckers, Iowa City 2007. We could steal Patterson Hood's Jack Daniels, we were so close. Got picks after the show and shook hands w/the band.

-80/35, Des Moines 2008. What a line up last year! Flaming Lips, the Roots, Drive-By Truckers, and others just tore it up.

-DMB, Alpine Valley 2005. O.A.R. opened both nights, and the DMB played great set lists both nights. Final song of the sunday night set was Two Step, my favorite DMB tune.

-Various bands @ People's. It was always fun going to Damon Dotson, K-Top, etc at People's. Good music, good brew, and always good scenery.

-Fork In The Road, Logan IA 2008. Great bar band playing their home bar the night before Thanksgiving. If you like southern rock, classic rock, blues or classic country, check these guys out.
