Great move for all parties. There is a lot of change taking place in higher education and centralizing of workforce (specifically ITS) already taking place at ISU that I think some tough decisions and cuts are going to be made in order to support the mission of ISU. President Wintersteen gets the sendoff she deserves and the next Pres could have some turbulent seas to navigate - I hope they are up to it.

Kind of a big moment for higher education in the state.

Wintersteen is retiring, Nook at UNI is 66 and Wilson at Iowa is 67.

That's three crucial hires that the BOR is going to have to make in the short term that are going to have a huge impact on the future of the state. I hope they're up to it and are more open to creative solutions and innovations to recruit, retain and create long term residents than they have been over the last 20ish years.

The Iowa legislature is reminding folks that ISU doesn't get any say in who their next president will be, and they don't even get any say in who the finalists will be.

The higher education institutions in this state are screwed.

It is concerning that that law is in place essentially doubling down on the ignoring of faculty input that occurred in the UofI search. It is even more concerning that lawmakers find it necessary to remind everyone that their guys in the BoR have full control over the process...

Curious what building will be named in honor of Wintersteen. I am old enough to remember then President Robert Parks for the start of my ISU days. Parks was and still is ISU's longest serving president at about 21 years. It is fitting that he has such a high profile building bearing his name. Wintersteen was a great president for ISU and should have something more than a storage shed in the far corner of campus bear her name.

The Harreld hiring was a mess. I would prefer internal decision makers were the ones making the choice instead of people in appointed roles. However, worst case in a search and decision like this is when you have a whole bunch of people and groups trying to take control of the process and fighting amongst each other, like we saw in the Harreld hiring process. Looking through the bios of the current Board of Regents it doesn’t give me much reason for concern and it’s nice that there are a lot of ISU connects on the current board (and nice that the board isn’t being led by a major political donor type like Rastetter).
