The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the best playing 3rd person action games ever made. The old version of The Last of Us on PS3/PS4 is not quite as good, but still pretty dang solid. I believe the new version on PS5 has updated to be more like Part 2.

Yeah, it was a bit jarring going back to replay TLOU1 after 2. The controls are much better in the latter.

Especially some of the accessibility settings you can turn on. I definitely turned on the 'auto grab materials' setting during the rat king segment

"Autograb" what? I didn't know that was a thing. That may be one of my most dreaded gameplay sequences ever.

Its under auto pick-up. I think I may have turned on auto weapons swap as well since I was frequently running out of ammo

And yeah, that segment ******* sucked to get through.

my only concern is the pacing. we're starting a bit slow and this season doesn't have many episodes.

I got mixed up with season 2 of Andor and completely forgot this was releasing today. I guess it’s on my watch list for tomorrow.

It’s not all that different with run times. There were a few eps in season one around 40-45 minutes with 9 total eps. Season two is 7 episodes but almost all are an hour.

I think most reviews would argue that the first season also suffered from being too short.

9@45 is typically better than 7@60. Usually an episode gets you a plot point, so more episodes can get more story. That extra 10-15 minutes seems to only get you more long camera shots and longer "fight" scenes.

I get that for some series. But this one the plot is set by the game. So the number of action sequences and plot points are already set. Assuming they follow the gameplay as closely as they did in season 1.

I hope they determined the number of episodes on that and not on what HBO was willing to pay for. But since Discovery took over, that has rarely seemed to be the case (RIP Batgirl) so I guess we’ll have to see how the season shakes out.

I'm hopeful they don't do that this season, I want them to expand that universe a bit. There were definitely some hints last night that they're changing it up a bit. Biggest one is the foreshadowing at the end with the pipes.

Am I the only one who has forgotten what happened in season 1 and was a bit lost during the season 2 premier? Season 1 seems like it was so long ago and I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast, let alone something that happened on a TV series over 2 years ago. The "previously on The Last of Us" segment didn't help much either.

Why is Ellie so mad at Joel? Did we see Joel kill his psychotherapist's husband? And if we did, why did he kill him? These are all things I was confused about, but there are probably more. I just barely remembered that Ellie is unique in that she was bitten once before and is immune to their bites. Also, why are the fireflies after Joel and Ellie? I thought Joel's brother was with the fireflies and that's what season 1 was all about ... getting Ellie to the Fireflies. I might have to watch season 1 all over again to find out these answers.

Mild spoilers.
Ellie is growing overtime to trust Joel less, and that's changing her behavior. That'll build more later.

At the end of last season, Joel and Ellie went to a hospital, did some stuff, then went back home unsatisfied. Joel told Ellie that there was no cure or anything she could help with. That hospital was a Firefly facility. The remaining few from that facility are now upset at them, to say the least.

I was also trying to remember the therapist connection... I think her husband got bit and Joel put him out of his misery, maybe? I could be off on that one.

I had to google the therapist's husband. I think that's one of the things they're changing for the show, in the game he only has a passing reference and it mentions him dying of a heart attack. Probably needed something to give O'Hara's character more depth.
