We all know TJ likes to stay around 8 for a rotation. Five of those guys hopefully return. What’s everyone’s thoughts on the other three?
Obviously the big German would be a HR big we’d be different but more athletic. Jefferson would likely handle the backup 5 minutes in the frontcourt but we’d still be looking at four guys combining to max out at 85 minutes.
Batemon seems like a likely insertion as his game cries Gilbert. I do think however Hiese would be the starter as Batemon isn’t a grown ass man yet like our current guards.
I don’t know much about the other newcomers but Indrustaitis seems like the ideal shooter to compliment this group. But you have to wonder if there won’t be a target in the portal.
My first thought is that TJ has gotten multiple transfers every single offseason that have been major parts of the rotation. However, next season feels a bit different as there will be multiple guys in Nojus and Batemon who are young and obviously very talented.
That being said, I'd venture to guess that there will be at least one Chatfield-type target, the level of whom probably depends on how Rock has developed. The backcourt situation seems more complicated. I feel like an experienced transfer with PG/CG skills would be useful because it's risky to rely on young guys handling the ball too much (whether that's Batemon/Nojus as combo guards or Moore/Toure, who seem to have more PG skills).
So, if everyone returns, I guess that leaves me with a core rotation of the 5 returning rotation guys, transfer big, transfer PG/CG, and whoever wins out between Nojus and Batemon.
That being said, even last year there were 9 guys who played in 17+ of the 18 Big 12 games. Pav and Watson were obviously limited minutes, and this season their minutes have kind of combined to become Heise's minutes. But it does show that Otz's rotation could expand for spot minutes for those young guys, a transfer, or a non-rotation returner if he thinks it's worthwhile.
