Could have taken the sack. Still would have had possession and a FG attempt. He was attempting to throw it away and couldn’t get enough mustard on it because he was getting sacked. It was 100% the right decision, just poor execution

25 years of running on every first down was a setupWe have been successful in first down passing because we have set teams up to think run. If we pass more on first it will become harder to pass.
We got kinda lucky on Jackson's 1st TD run. Looks like #84 (TE Burkle) probably got away with a jersey grab around the 2 yard line.
(here at 2:47)
Defensive ends are coached to block the path of the throw, resulting in arch. This slight delay combined with sideline pinning makes those release valves more difficult to result in yardage. Those little slip outs to the flats by a full or power back with Rocco jetting out to flip it from the LOS are beautiful.
Not a fan of the 3rd and 2 shot (all teams in all games), when the "TE is your friend"! It's just not a good risk-reward IMO.I think he outsmarted himself early on when it was 3rd and 2 and called a shot to Higgins 1 on 1 instead of just running the ball 2 times. The run game was dominant on that first drive and the turn over on downs really took the air out of the stadium early on. It took a while to get momentum back. Other than that I thought he called a great game.
I believe analytically speaking, passing on first down at any level football, gives you the highest probability of success…assuming your QB isn’t Cade McNamara that is.We have been successful in first down passing because we have set teams up to think run. If we pass more on first it will become harder to pass.

Dude put up MONSTER stats his senior yearMy father went to a lot of his games his senior year since he lived in Humboldt at the time. I went to the North Polk game against Humboldt and Matson looked good. I'm not surprised to see him contributing.
What makes Rocco (like Purdy) so good is that they both throw a tight spiral and can sidearm it if needed to get around and under the arms of the big defense ends.Huh?
I'm saying I like those plays and they've been very successful.
Purdy was the perfect "dual threat". Not a burner by any means but was one pump fake away from a ten yard run for a first down.Dual threat QBs are overrated. Injury prone and rarely good passers. Give me a pocket passer who is a good decision maker with an adequate ability to scramble and run when things break down.
When I can't stand announcing, I mute the TV n listen to State radio broadcast while watching on tvThe whole broadcast was awful. Fox is not putting any effort into these games.
Shot plays are always risky. I agree that sticking with the play calling that got you to the redzone might have been best. I would also say that we (as fans) have asked for non-predictable play calling. This might have been a self-scout situation. Instead of inside run they took a shot with their big play receiver in a 1 on 1 situation. Not a fan of the 3rd and 2 shot (all teams in all games), when the "TE is your friend"! We did get back to the script 4th and 2 with a hand-off to Sama that went nowhere. The complaint I would have... If you like taking the shot 3rd and 2. You need to have the right follow-up call on 4th down.
I hope Sama stays engaged as the season goes on.Sama clearly didn't run the play correctly. Rocco pointed towards where the play was supposed to go and was like WTF Abu. After that Sama didn't play too much.

I like Sama a lot, but imo feels like he has been missing holes and not reading blocks. Has all the talent in the world, but this is not IHSAA football, and you arent the best athlete on the field any longer. I do think he will pick it up by the end of the year, but its nice to have Hansen and Jackson performing as well as they are while Sama comes alongSama clearly didn't run the play correctly.
