Tim Floyd was 69-29 after 3 years with 3 NCAA Tournament Births including 2 second rounds and one sweet 16, Larry Eustachy was 72-26 after 3 years with 2 Big 12 Championships including A Elite 8 finish with 2 NCAA tournaments, Wayne Morgan was 55-39 after 3 years including a final 4 appearance in NIT and a 2nd round appearance in the NCAA Tournament., and Greg McDermott is 44-50 so far after 3 years with no post season appearances. Wayne Morgan was fired because his record was not good enough and that the Mens basketball program was supposed to be a elite program. GMACC gets a nine year contract. This does not add up. I think Pollard is going to run our program in the ground. The bottom line in this business is wins and losses.

These players were left for Floyd and LE. What was McDermott left with

I know you have an agenda but use the whole story next time when making a point

The difference is that Floyd,Eustachy and Morgan didn't have the max exodus of players that McDermott had. Now I don't know if that was his fault or not but it's going to be interesting seeing this off season if Brackins stays and who else G Mac can get in to Ames in the 2010-11 season

Good coach.
Larry Eustachy was 72-26 after 3 years with 2 Big 12 Championships including A Elite 8 finish with 2 NCAA tournaments,
Hmmm...these guys named Tinsley and Fizer come to mind? What did he do without them again?

Wayne Morgan was 55-39 after 3 years including a final 4 appearance in NIT and a 2nd round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.,
Hmm...and now we're satisfied with an underachieving NIT team and a guy that could recruit very well, but couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag?

and Greg McDermott is 44-50 so far after 3 years with no post season appearances.
and has a potentially middle of the pack Big XII team next season if Brackins sticks around.

Wayne Morgan was fired because his record was not good enough and that the Mens basketball program was supposed to be a elite program. GMACC gets a nine year contract. This does not add up.
Are you Jamie Pollard? Do you know definitively why Wayne was fired? Didn't think so.

I think Pollard is going to run our program in the ground.
Yep, he hates the Cyclones so he's trying his best to ruin Iowa State athletics.
The bottom line in this business is wins and losses.
Ask Florida State about that.

Thanks! I'm here all week.

I agree - player retention is a huge concern regarding GMac. Remember, he brought in six players his first year - all six have left prior to their eligibility expiring...

Someone pointed out that the spring recruits, i.e. the ones where he had to take whoever he could get in order to fill out a roster, have left.

On the other hand, the fall recruits, with the long-term relationships he has built, have stayed and been productive, developing players.

I think retention is largely a result of the difficulty in filling out the roster when he came aboard.

There will be at least one other defection this off season from the sounds of it. Dunson, Brister, Vette, Taylor, McCintosh, Johnson, Johnson, and Marsden all left ISU without fulfilling their eligibility. Yes, Taylor is an idiot and did it to himself but that is 8 guys in 3 years that didn't want to play (or got kicked off) for McDermott. Throw in Brackins possibly leaving and the rumor of Mann transferring to D-II then that would make 10 in three years. If that rate kept up he would lose 30 guys in his 9 year contract. Kind of alarming

Vette got homesick.
Taylor gets kicked out.
Mcintosh goes to a smaller school.
Wesley is an idiot.
Marsden---I don't know.
Brister has a family thing.
Cory Johnson wanted playing time.

If Mann leaves, that would be for playing time, too, that apparently wouldn't be happening here (if that's the choice he makes).

Not real alarming, really.

I know people disagree, but I honestly think this has been a string of bad luck for Mac. I know that Mac had nothing to do with Vette, Brister, and Taylor leaving...they had extraneous issues to deal with that they would have had with any coach there. I suspect the same with Wes, although don't know that for sure. That's probably the case with Dunson, as he pointed to academics as the reason he was leaving.

I know the turnover is bad, but I see it kind of like I see all the banked in free throws other teams have had against us...it's a bad run of luck with unique situations that will hopefully end now.

No offense, but those are some lame excuses to cover up the exodus of players. Vette was from Waverly and is now playing at Winona State which is further away than Ames. Not buying the homesickness thing. Yes, Taylor is an idiot and did it to himself. McCintosh was so unhappy that he paid his own way to play at a lower level college rather than receive a free education. Dunson had to pay his own way at Vincennes JuCo in Indiana before he transferred to Bradley. Brister had a child back home and hated McDermott---believe he posted that on here a couple times. Cory Johnson would have played alot this year with our lack of experience up front. Instead we signed Mann who is likely leaving as well. You can write up as many scenarios as you want but when 8, possibly 10 guys are gone in 3 years (not to mention the guys that left in that period after Morgan got fired---Carr, Evanovich, Degand, Taggart) it kind of makes you wonder how much emphasis there is on "relationships" between player and coaches.

macintosh was/is an extremely undersized guard, and transferred to Augustana. He was a "fill in". we needed bodies for a year, and he fit the bill-for a year. it was either take a huge chance on him or not have enough guys to even play the games.

brister thought he was too good not to start as a true freshman. what's he doing right now? not playing basketball?

cory johnson might have been a decent role player for us this year, but i doubt he would have gotten many more minutes than Thompson.

and for degand, tags, carr, and evanovich, it was probably a little difficult to form a relationship when they bailed pretty much after morgan got fired wasn't it?

One would think so, but a lot of people seem more bent on blaming McDermott for their leaving than looking at it this way.

I don't know for sure about Degand and Evanovich, but I know Tasheed Carr was going to leave right before the Big 12 Tournament, right before Morgan was let go. But Pollard allowed Carr to come back to see what McDermott was like. Apparently, he wasn't impressed and went back home to Philadelphia to play at Saint Joseph's (where he's had a good 2 years).
