Testifying
It was the first game of that season. I agree it is too early to panic this season though. But make no mistake about it, that team was extremely way more talented than this one, talented enough to win it all.
To me, today's game feels like that game we had in Brooklyn against South Carolina.
I'm not going to melt down over it. I just thought our fanbase could be better than calling our own players garbage.
TJ obviously has some things to work on.

Is Biliew ever going to make an impact for us? A consensus five star recruit and this guy has done absolutely nothing and looks not ready to play at the collegiate level. Sure, it’s early. But he looks unprepared.
Maybe he’ll make an impact if he gets to play more than five minutes. Could be worth a try at least.

He’s doing a lot of things aside from shooting that are winning plays. His career #s say shots will start to fall.

Gabe, Grill, Donovan Jackson, young Matt T are examples we know that struggled to hit but eventually found their stride.

I have nothing other than career 3pt % to base that off of, but writing him off when staff seem to be believing in him seems futile.
Fair but C Jones already has one year of D1 ball in experience. I’m thinking our current system just doesn’t work for him and so he’s not shooting the same types of 3s as he was at Buffalo.

Also he overextends on defense a lot, including over helping, late rotations, missing steals (like at the end of today which was completely unnecessary to go for). That stuff works against mid major teams but not V Tech or ESPECIALLY Texas A&M.

Hope he improves to his career averages but his shooting mechanics aren’t like Kalscheur’s and his motor isn’t as strong either… just my two cents but I appreciate the actual dialogue I hope you had a good thanksgiving holiday

Right, and referencing a game from 23+ years ago means fans cannot express frustration from HOW the team played the last couple of games here to start our current season (and the negative trends that seem to remind of past negative trends under this staff), do I have that right? Perspective right!? Just one game, right?
Reasonable criticism fine, but stuff like player A is not P6 worth because of a bad game, is just stupid ****.

Things like TJ needs to figure out is his rotations or I thought November was when you wanted to build depth why is the rotation down to like 6. Is definitely fair and should be discussed

Correct. The ‘99-00 comparison (inevitably thrown out every single year because “rEmemBER THeY loSt to DRaKE!!”) is about as annoying as it is irrelevant.

i'm usually to busy watching the game to be playing on here during the game

I’ll admit I post to vent bad calls. Sorry all but I just do.

If I only do it 2-3 times during the game it probably means it‘s actually a well officiated game. Tonight really wasn’t that bad in terms of one team didn’t get totally screwed, they just couldn’t get consistent on what a charge is. I do think we kind of got the majority of bad calls against VCU.

I really don’t get bashing the players in an over the top way…also don’t get bashing announcers, who cares? Sometimes other teams have punks that are annoying though.

I especially don’t get overreacting to one game. MM has been a near perfect offensive player in 5 of 6 games, crazy people were overreacting to his VCU game. On defense he’s a true freshman, he’ll get better, he doesn’t need to have the defensive talent of Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman to become a good defender at this level, just more than a handful of games experience.

I hate when people act like it should always be 90% or 100% but you can definitely look at what 70% could’ve done.
That’s my point. You hit 70% and you’re an average team. The good ones (look at some of the ISU women’s teams) shoot closer to 80% or slightly above. That could be the difference in another 5-6 wins over a season.

For real like my bad for being a passionate fan. Losing pre conference games to inferior teams is predictive of a bad team not a good one.
Interesting take. The 1999-2000 Iowa State squad that won the big 12 title, conference tournament, and made a run to the elite 8 was actually a bad team. They lost to Drake in the non conference after all

It wasn't the first game of that season and Drake was bad.

Va Tech is not bad.

Rocye White's team loss to some bad non con teams too.

I would say the common thread was how unknown the team was outside of Fizer.

This team has the pieces but Tamin was really only the “locked in” piece in terms of we’d all be shocked if he didn’t have a great year.

Everybody knew Fizer would be solid that year but we got picked last because 15-15 the year before and the players around him were pretty unknown.

I really don’t care how good or bad Omaha actually is. There is no possible way he can play as bad as Jones or Gilbert did tonight. At the bare minimum, he has the length to grab a damn rebound even if he’s shooting as bad as those two
Except when he was in there he was getting beat to the punch on rebounds. Maybe the game is too fast for him at this juncture but at some point this year he needs to be a contributor on the boards and on defense. I think he will

The inconsistency of block charge is terrible this year. Which is funny.. because the rule change was supposed to make it more consistent. Seems the consistency is just "everything is a block!"

In the same regard, predicting the team will be terrible after their first loss of the season (which happens each year on this sub) is about as annoying as it is irrelevant
