Can’t believe he gutted that out. Thought he was done a couple times. Then comes back and hits that crucial 3 and free throws. Hope he is ok and the back heals with time, but who knows.

agreed. He was coming up short a lot and then in the clutch he just came through. huge 3, and getting iced on the free throws he just did his thing.

Think they ought to rest and heal him this weekend, and have him stay home for Missouri. We need him better/healthy for our stretch run in conference, but yes a gutsy performance, but he passed on some open threes early in the game; figured he was protecting his back

Me too. Kept limping back to the bench and I thought that was the last we'd see of him tonight. Amazing that he had that many minutes in that condition, and still found a way to make a big impact on winning the game.

Caleb Grill’s status is ice-water in the veins. That 3 might go down as one of the all-time great Hilton explosions.

He was a liability for most of the game on both ends of the floor. His back is clearly impacting his speed, ability to jump/land and ability to change direction. He now has a hard time getting open, shooting, rebounding, and staying with his man on defense. I'm not so sure him being out there, in this condition, is best for him or the team right now.

With that said he put forth one hell of an effort and picked a great time to hit a big shot and know down his FTs. Gutsy performance.

Just got done watching most of the second half and this was one of the grittier things I've seen an ISU player do in a very long time and the will to be out there with his guys in such a big game deserves huge props.

Anyone complaining about him being out there is a moron.

TJ and Tang talked about Grill being a huge part of the game when he is in.TJ said the guys are so much more comfortable. Tang said he creates space because of the fear of him shooting. He is such an invaluable teammate and his toughness is rarely matched After reading about Hawley and that they are roommates and friends doesn't surprise me.

This team is full of dudes. Watch the toughness in Gabe. He takes so many shots to the chin and often just shakes it off. Last night Lipsey twisted an ankle and continued flying around. Shoon looked like he tore his ACL a few games ago and hasn't missed a game. If they get fouled they never whine, just move on.

I'm so proud of this team and the culture TJ is creating.

Your second sentence is the part a few posters don't get or don't want to understand.

Looked to me like they had a plan to help cover up Grill's inability to move and it paid off late when they needed him. Who'd a thunk?

Agree, try to get him healing and better for conference play.

People let the announcers influence them too much. The comment about icing Grill with the officials timeout in particular. Given Grill’s back issues it probably gave him a couple minutes to rest it and get ready to shoot the free throws.

I disagree that he was a liability on offense. While he wasn't scoring, he was getting guarded tight every time he touched the ball which helped open up the inside. He presence on the floor is valuable, even when he is not scoring.

That being said, a healthy Grill is much more valuable, so hopefully he gets some time off the next few games.

I was complaining about it in the stands. No reason to call the players back out if the review is still going.

This Missouri game kinda pisses me off right now. We have to go on the road to Mizzou and then follow that up with a road game at Tech 48 hours later. WTF. We could forfeit the Missouri game and I'd be fine with it. I don't want our players spending any physical or emotional currency on Mizzou. It's meaningless. Tech game is WAY more important.

You can see exactly what happened when Grill went back in late. They were sagging completely off of Tamin and it was messing up our spacing big time. We had to get Grill back out there as a 3 point threat to make them at least respect the 3 point line.

I think they can beat Mizzou without Grill and it is another opportunity for a good win. If ISU just takes care of the ball against their pressure, they should win. Alternatively, I think they can force them into mistakes and get some easy buckets.
