I think I have this down to 2 things.

The targeting call and lack of calling it on the 2-3 other ones on Baylor of the exact nature. it changed the game.

the chop block call would would have resulted in Baylor punting and it was an terrible bad call.

Those two things completely changed the game IMO.
We also didn't play very well
I think the illegal pick that happened about a foot in front of the ref that gave Baylor a first down was also blatantly bad. The WR straight tackled the DB trailing Sims - it was 3rd & 6 early in the 3rd quarter and it extended the Baylor drive.

All can be true at the same time:
  • Baylor was the better team
  • Refs were pretty bad
  • Still too many unforced errors in September
  • This team’s ceiling is still TBD
  • Still tons to play for

This would have been a very different game if the refs did not make those terrible calls and baylor had not been given the 14 points for an early lead. We lost by seven.

Of course when ever there is a chance to take a lead , like to start the second half, the Tom manning developed and coached offense will fold .

I hear you, but I honestly struggle with blaming the refs with all the mistakes we make. Plenty of bad calls, but we need to put the game out of the official’s reach.

I can’t believe that didn’t get called. That was a text book illegal pick.

There were a couple tough calls but there isn't much argument we're better than Baylor. Their offense was a step ahead all day and they seemed to be in Dekkers head on defense. On to KU.

All day? Where in first half were they a step ahead? I saw them earn 3 pts on the ISU D.

Looked like this was opposite of usual where we nearly shut them out in first half then torched in second half.

It seems strange to think about this, but the Kansas game is going to be a pivotal game. If we lose that game, I fear we will have a poor season and momentum going forward. However, I do believe we can and should beat Kansas!

The thing is, those calls in the first half matter! They kept our defense on the field and there’s a ripple effect there. No we didn’t have a great third qtr but we would have had to play damn near perfect today to win thanks to the zebras

Oh for sure.

But it also wouldnt be fair to say "the refs handed them 14 and we lost by 7, so we should have won". We brought it back to within range during semi-garbage time. With how things had gone the third quarter, if the game had been closer things may have gone differently in the 4th.

In the end this should have been the evenly matched battle that vegas predicted, but we were denied that by the refs.

Campbell's teams have been good rebounding from a loss

We're going to stomp KU. They will be favored, but we will give them a dose of reality next week.
They better play alot better than they did today and a couple weeks ago against Iowa. They'll be walking into a hornets nest next week with as much momentum as that program has right now.

They were sold out today against Duke so imagine what next week will be like. I'd argue it will be their biggest home game since the Mangino era.

Got out played in a lot of phases of the game including coaching. Need to lower expectations for the season and hope they get better. Line play was very disappointing. We'll be favored vs Kansas but I'd take the points at this point in time.

Did we play bad enough that ISU loses even if you start opening kickoff with a 14-0 ISU lead?

I think it's probably a coin toss if you take away the 14 point undeserved spot.

The absurdity of it really makes the game kind of meaningless to analyze other than more coaching opportunities to work on second half mistakes.
Even with all these bad calls, only down 3 at half and then turned it over, getting the ball in the 3rd.

I posted pretty early in thread that I hoped ISU won or Baylor would win by more than 20 because any other result was going to be in the realm of first half officiating affecting the outcome.

Didn’t happen so while it sucks we lost I’m going to hard disagree with the people who act like this was some sort of blowout where ISU didn’t belong.

it’s a bit of a throwaway outside of teaching moments and unfortunately an L that sticks. If ISU ever gets spotted 14 to start a game I’m sure we could get a W that had same sort of meaningless fog over it.

That first half was probably the worst I’ve seen in terms of those 3 penalties that just literally did not happen and they were winning 3rd down plays for ISU. Losing a starter for no reason for an entire game is almost impossible to quantify as well.

I had to listen to the early part of the game on the radio -- Baylor sports network. They even agreed that some of the calls against ISU by the refs were bad. I hope this cheers everyone up!
