If you flipped the halves so those calls ended the game rather than started it...99% of objective observers would say the refs decided the game and/or the game was fixed.

It's kind of a human psychology question if the timing and sequence actually matter that much.

I think the program is being a chump if they don't address it with some visual evidence. They can especially contrast it to the play where Baylor #5 led with helmet and his first contact was helmet to to helmet and that one didn't even get a lengthy review. The game was anybody's game at that point and would've extended and ISU drive.

There needs to be a push for consistency in the targeting call, and for a warning before outright tossing someone unless it's a true launch/head butt type of deal.

This goes well beyond ISU or today.

Isu isn't good enough to get screwed that hard and win....that said, 14 points with 7 minutes to go just isn't nearly enough. Still have to score a bunch of points to win in this league, and mostly we struggle with that.

And just too many mistakes....8 penalties is way too many.

Yeah, our offense isn't the unit that got screwed beyond belief by fantasy land officiating.

Two things can be true:

The butterfly effect of the refs kicking out Freyler and extending drives early for Baylor absolutely effected the outcome of the game.

Iowa State had opportunities in the second half to overcome those setbacks and didn’t step up to the plate.

Hell they had chances in the first half.

Did we play bad enough that ISU loses even if you start opening kickoff with a 14-0 ISU lead?

I think it's probably a coin toss if you take away the 14 point undeserved spot.

The absurdity of it really makes the game kind of meaningless to analyze other than more coaching opportunities to work on second half mistakes.
Yeah I agree, it was so bad, and changed the game so much, that it makes it really hard to say much about the rest of the game. The three really bad calls were all 3rd downs too, and had massive change on the game.

Just the fact that one that isn't even remotely targeting gets a 5 minute review then ejection and one where the original contact is obviously helmet to helmet gets no scrutiny and no lengthy review?

That should be enough to never hire the person in charge of that replay procedure again. Random person off the street with a vision test could do better than that.

Dekkers needs to clean his slop up. Way too many offensive possessions lost by quick poorly thrown passes.

I think we are the more physical team, and I don't think KU has beaten anyone good

I think KU plays in a much more forward and sharp manner.

Maybe ISU can get some of that going.

Aside from the weirdness they were sloppy today.

I look at it this way

1st quarter: ISU better team in all phases
2nd quarter: ISU better team in all phases
3rd quarter: Baylor dominated, real physical domination without aid of refs
4th quarter: kind of a wash, Baylor was sitting back in prevent because of the ref cushion 1st half gave them and their domination of 3rd quarter gave them. Nothing can really be learned from 4th quarter other than nice our guys didn't quit.

Obviously every game has things that can be improved. Ohio had things to work on. But in terms of getting outplayed, I really don't think you can say we came out and got out played. They lost something in 3rd quarter on both sides of the ball.

People kept saying "need a stop"...they got a ton of stops that were overruled because of bull****. The D looked great first half. The bend/don't break was working to perfection and the refs broke it. Baylor never broke it once in the first half.

I won't say that the refs handed Baylor the game because they were flat out beating us most of the second half, but it sucks that the refs denied us the chance to see a great game that we could have had if not for their garbage in the first half
The thing is, those calls in the first half matter! They kept our defense on the field and there’s a ripple effect there. No we didn’t have a great third qtr but we would have had to play damn near perfect today to win thanks to the zebras
