I am out here sitting at my office in cedar rapids doing some work. And there are 2 foxes out here running around my storage facility. And right next to some houses too.

I got some pictures taken that I can post later, but I am curious should I call animal control or something, or leave them alone?

Just leave them alone. There are way more foxes living in city limits than most people realize. I see them in Ames a lot.

Not sure what it goes for now but I know when I was in high school about 10 years ago some kids I went to school w/would hunt fox and get pretty good money out of them for their hide (fur, coat, skin whatever it would be called, not a big outdoorsmen so unsure what you would call it on a fox). If it's still decent $ kill them and then you can leave work since you will have made your money for the day

Sorry to disappoint, I just have never seen foxes running around in the city around here before. Thought it was cool.

I have seen them around Marion. I once heard a pack of them howling when I had a paper route by Linn-Mar.

Those were probably coyotes.

Foxes yip and bark, but don't howl, I don't think.

Pretty sure you are correct. Foxes are rather quiet if remember correctly. If you hear animals howling you are probably hearing coyotes. There are more of them around than you would think also.

If they don't look sick leave them alone. Unless ou enjoy fox hunting, though it might be tough in town. If a fox is sick you can tell pretty easy. Mange is a pretty common problem but if they have mange you will be able to tell. They lose their fur and become disoriented. I saw a fox with mange in Ames last year. He came stumbling across the highway and walked right past a woman getting out of her car like it didn't even notice her. As long as they are healthy they won't cause any harm and might give you something fun to watch during the workday.

We saw one out at the paintball field one day, it was pretty neat. Needless to say it would not respond to our calls.

I live in Clive and had a fox in my front yard a couple years ago. I've seen them on the side of the road a few times as well.

Just leave them be....they are all over the place.
