Why all the hate for Beth Mowins in this thread? I'm definitely not her biggest fan, but are a bunch of you confusing her with who actually did our 2 games?

  • 3:10 pm: No. 11 Iowa State vs. No. 3 Wisconsin, TNT
Spero Dedes / Deb Antonelli / AJ Ross
If that's the case, we need to redirect our hate towards Deb Antonelli.:)

I thought the commentator (Antonelli) was fine. She knows way more basketball than 90+% of the posters in this forum. People need to knock it off with the Beth Mowins hate. She doesn't even work for Turner and she is an announcer, not a commentator.

They weren't a great duo, but I thought she was much better than the play by play guy. I just wish they could've come to an agreement on how to pronounce Kalscheur. He was really sticking to his guns on Kal-shore.

I've always said Kal-sure, but he was so adamant about it, I wondered if he had spoken directly to Gabe.

The in game person?

She couldn't get paid enough to not be all about WI.

I think Fraschilla has spoiled all of us. I thought these announcers were pretty good for the most part. They're in a tough spot during NCAA tourney week, having to learn about a lot of teams in a short turnaround. Sometimes they fall back on cliches a little bit and don't do a great job adjusting in real time when the flow/outcome of the game doesn't match the narrative coming into the game.

My biggest pet peeve is when they gloss over things like questionable calls by not showing replays or discussing it on the broadcast. But that's probably an editorial choice as much as it is negligence. I'm sure CBS wants the focus on the games, not the officiating.

How did Murray look in his tourney game? How did Murray and Davis perform head to head? How did Davis look before he lost his point guard? I don't know these answers.
Murray may have gotten less consideration because of Garza having just won it twice in a row

I think ISU is better than Richmond especially on D, but Murray had a typical efficient game although not one of his best. 8/15 fg, 9 rebounds, 21 points. His efficiency is why I think he's such a good player, he scores a ton without huge # of shots. Maybe that isn't a sexy thing either.

I think you're probably right about Garza. To me he's a better player than Garza was. He can play in any style of play and doesn't have to demand the ball to put up big offensive #s. With Garza they had to play around Garza and sometimes that isn't going to work...definitely not in the NBA game.

It may be hard for some to put away the rivalry, but if I could add one of them to ISU's team (Davis or Murray) it's Murray very easily. I'd say the same if I was starting a team from scratch. I was expecting a lot more impressive looking player since he won the award over Murray. Like I said, he struck me as a slightly weaker Nader. (I just looked up their measurements and they are almost identical except Davis longer wingspan, but also probably why he doesn't look as strong as Nader)

All good points. Did Davis get injured a few weeks back and has struggled to return to form since?

Yeah, I'll go ahead and pull for Texa$ and TCU.... how badass would it be to have 5 Big 12 teams in the Sweet 16?
Three from the Big 12 is still pretty good. And who would have thunk ISU instead of say, Baylor?

TCU made a nice run and almost pulled it off last night. AZ's got some good players.

This is one of the most annoying recent trends in sports announcing. They employ all these remote rules analysts, feel free to use them to discuss wrong calls even when they aren't going to the review monitor. Gene Steratore literally has nothing else to do...

Fraschilla was on the westwood 1 broadcast and it was great.

I thought Spero sounded just like Mike Tirico. Anyone else hear that?

So now that we beat the B1G regular season champs to go along with a total beat down of the B1G tourney champs, where do we pickup our B1G champion trophey?

I'd like to propose relegation for the bottom big 10 team, bringing ISU in their place

This quote from Reddit is spot on:

"playing us is like arguing with a moron. We drag you down to our level and then beat you with experience."

Similarly, the quote "Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and you eventually realize the pig likes it", also seems appropriate for our team.

People playing on house money are dangerous.....I can see another win.
Hey, the script gets flipped now. Instead of playing Bucky on basically their home court, we'll have a big-time home crowd in Chicago vs Miami.

A potential rematch with KU will probably be pretty evenly split, but we'll have plenty there for that one too. Obviously, we'd outdraw Providence by a huge margin.

As crazy as it sounds, our path going forward to a potential Final 4 is probably one of the best scenarios we could hope for right now.

These guys have a huge opportunity here.

The game turned on that injury. Even as a die hard Cyclone I could see that.
I think a little sell doubt crept in on the Wisco side after that. It's kind of like: you feel it's your year in the Tourney and then something like that happens and you think: well, maybe it isn't.

I don't think his absence on the court lost them the game. Obviously during the season they've had to play without him due to foul trouble at times.

We played shorthanded too due to our foul trouble with a huge discrepancy in fouls called in the 1st ½, so...
