The numbers in Iowa go down?

Most if not all of the schools not having fans for the first game have said that they will reassess and hope to have fans for future games. There's no reason why Iowa State shouldn't do the same.

Frankly, I just think Jamie's pissed and is willing to say screw it to the entire season.

I'm just saying - what will change enough by 10/3, or 12/5 for that matter, that will reduce the shut it down crew enough to allow fans. Nothing will.

Is there any opportunity or any navigation IRT higher TV ratings? I know the 60k is a drop in the bucket... but with 2 major conferences out ... TV views will most certainly be way up, right?

Does that impact anything?

And then ... if there is a BCS playoff .. how much does ISU recieve for 1 Big12 team, two? If they are in it?

You're not trying to understand anything when you deflect with this political talking point about protests.
That was one outdoor example with some of the largest amount of participants around the country but you're being to obtuse to have a decent conversation. You're the one who is making it out to be political.

that would be nice but I imagine the contracts are written in such a way that ESPN and Fox have basically bought the rights to our games already. If the ratings for those games end up sucking for whatever reason (say some major event caused people to focus on something else ) they get the financial downside from that, and if the ratings end up over performing they get the extra money from that. Their risk, their reward.

We'll know JP is serious if he gets rid of mens and womens track and field. My guess is he'd tear down CY Stephens and build a casino there before that happens though. :)

From announcing sweeping facility changes and Premium upgrades (JTS/Hilton Parking Lot turned in to the Shoppes at SodaSoPa) to this. Where did all the money go?
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you are being purposefully obtuse and understand the difference between a budget shortfall and financing construction projects.

The whole situation sucks but this is not the time for us as fans to turn it into a political issue, calling others dumb, or pointing the fingers at everyone on whose fault it is. COVID sucks and it's affected everyone in different ways throughout the year and this is just another result of that. We'll get through this and I'm damn glad we have Pollard heading this up because he's already been pro-active with everything and will get creative in this situation too. All you have to do is go back several years when the Big 12 was about to implode and he was one of the key guys who helped keep things together and supposedly was already making contingency plans if things did blow up.

I think a lot depends on community spread levels within Ames and Central Iowa in general, The areas where most fans are coming from. If that sees good improvement over the next month, I could definitely see a seating chart with 25% attendance working out. As it was the 40% seating chart didn't really allow for adequate distancing and spread levels were/are sky high. Everyone can do their part to change that.

I don't blame JP for being upset, he and the University has a plan to avoid this. Outside pressure pooped all over that plan and likely didn't even take the time to understand the plan. This is the result of less income. Some people will be affected greatly. It sucks.

For those that think we will have fans for OU, what are the metrics that make that ok? Some will never be ok with fans in the stands this fall and they will yell the loudest. For one, I don't ever see the Story County Health Director supporting fans this fall. It doesn't matter what JP plans.
I think the mistake JP made was being too aggressive with the 25k figure. Just from an optics standpoint with Ames having a large amount of cases, that was an issue. Had they gone with 10-15k instead and % wise would have been in line with other schools in the conference, I don't think you would have seen the blowback from the public.

Exactly the reality is there are going to be people who think that we should act like nothing is happening and there are people who will never think we can do anything. I think the story county board of health has destroyed their credibility and will never be ok with fans.

The key will be to find the people who want to actually come up with plans that can safely work and figure out how best to do them.

For what it's worth the plan for commercial space in the Hilton lots is probably the most likely thing still out there. The Hilton improvements in Jack trice improvements cost money, but are mainly just amenities, The idea for commercial space was designed to generate an additional revenue stream for the athletics department. And I think that still could come to fruition someday though that may be slowed down by the overall economic climate delaying new openings.

We deferred our tickets to next year already paid for them. Can they raise next year's price? I've already bought a paid for a said product and waiting on delivery until 2021. Just asking the question.
I think I remember early emails saying ticket prices would not be raised/changed next year.

Posting an open letter to the fans doesn't seem the most productive method to solve difficult problems.
Would you have rather he did what Barta did? Two minute talk on the sports they were cutting and then leave to have your assistant field all the questions from athletes that just found out their sport was axed? At least JP lets us know what is going on. Anyone here any Barta comments on anything lately? (insert crickets chirping).

This is why you don't have an athletic department run a performing arts venue.

Agree, but also, what is CY Stephens gonna be hosting this year? Unless things change, you aren't having anything happening in there this season. So, quite frankly... of course it's gonna be closed, whether due to finances or otherwise. I'm under the assumption though that "closing" it doesn't mean they're going to demolish it, so once things start actually opening back up again, what's to stop the venue from reopening?

I know they do a lot of dance competitions and vocal stuff in there. Not sure if it brings in revenue?

I'm sure they do, but I guess that's my point.. there's no way that stuff is happening this year, whether there's money to run the building or not. Maybe that's a wrong assumption on my part.
