Did we start the road to perdition for N? Seems like after that season, that game, it has been one slow lovely slide into obscurity--welcome to New Nebraskagolia, sand, rednecks and a lot of people yearning for the good old days.
That was definitely the day that it was clear that a dominance like the 90s was gone and probably not coming back anytime soon. That was step 1.Colorado on November 23, 2001
I’ll never forget listening to that one on the radio. I can remember the exact place on the farm where my dad and I got out of the tractor/combine to yell “we won?!?!?!?” At each other in disbelief.
Definitely, one of my top 5 that I most often watch over and over! This video will always have a special place in my heart. The yakety sax just puts it over the top.
Paul Rhoads was still a lousy ass coach!

Firing Solich was the official end of the T.O. era at Nebraska. Pelini did well but couldn't get along with the administration, alumni, or anyone who was ever critical of him. I have no idea why they built that upper deck expansion that is 400 feet away from the field. In my humble opinion Nebraska's road to perdition started when they Fired Frankie Solich for not winning a natl championship in the Rose Bowl vs Miami...they next hired Bill Callahan and then things went from bad to worse since...Talking to my Husker relatives last sat nite ....they want to fire Scott Frostbite after THIS SEASON....I told them it wasn't going to happen and welcome to the world of "perpetually rebuilding"....btw attendance for the Indiana game was 9,000 short of a sellout......Almighty Nebraska will call it a sellout, because of tickets sold but....Some fans aren't showing up to see LOSING HUSKER FOOTBALL!!
I was going to post Solich if you didn't. The dude won the Big 12 North 3 times and only was worse than second once. But they fired him after a 10-3 season. The fanbase had a conference championship as their minimum expectation with many clamoring for a NCG berth every year with the expectation of winning it at least every other year. A 59-19 (.756) record wasn't good enough.
You need to post that pic more. I'm sure you've posted it before and I get a kick out of it every time.Picture of me and my kid brother at the game. I grew up in Nebraska and always went to the ISU/Nebraska game wherever it was. My brother still lives in Nebraska and is of course a Husker fan. EVERY TURNOVER I picked him up and shook him around, I'm surprised he didn't punch me before the game was over.
Keep in mind that we had a guaranteed fumble return TD blown dead because the officials didn't think the ball was a fumble. The call on the field was down by contact, but review overturned the call. How bad do you have to be to get 8 turnovers and still almost lose. Still loved that game and I realize ISU was second string QB and RB.

There were rumors that Solich had some problems with keeping his throat hydrated - if you know what I mean.
I heard this from a colleague who was a big Nebby fan and was in Lincoln. Not sure how legit this was but she mentioned that it was a public knowledge.
