Politics and In-State Rivals Threads

I have finally been able to reset the value for everybody so the tens of thousands that were suddenly seeing unwanted threads, that should now be resolved.

Yes, you may hate me for it (lol if that's what finally pushes you there) but you will need to go back in and opt-in to either/both of the forums. This should be the last time.


You will notice that you may or may not be seeing expected posts from the Politics and In-State Rivals forums.

Due to the nature of these forums, they have been changed from an opt-out to opt-in design - meaning you must opt-in to see them. Unfortunately, that only changes the default for new registrations.

Your selections right now are likely not what you want.

To change your settings, click on your username in the top right corner of the page. Click on Preferences and you will be taken to a screen where you can set various options. Scroll down just a little bit and you will see the two options in the bottom of the below screenshot. Here, you can Opt-In to the Gaming and Hobbies, Politics, and/or In-State Rivals forums.

A note that was in the cave (and maybe outside of it too) was that it could take up to 2 hours. When I’ve opted in/out before I know it has taken some time, but not that long.

SORRY - I know this sucks short-term.

For some reason the last upgrade made it so people were by default seeing the Politics and In-State Forums rather than having to opt-in (custom field value default wrong). I made the redesign and cron updates and am hoping to have a script run to reset it back to null for everybody

Note - That would mean nobody would see those forums/threads/posts unless/until they opt-in again (even if you just did). The selection choices get processed every 2 hours in batches and promote individuals to have the access they've opted-in to. It may take up to a couple hours to see those forums again.

These always should have been opt-in like the Gaming forum rather than opt-out.
