Alrighty, wind is gusting to 23 mph again. Back to normal conditions.

Never even said "biking" out loud. The wind gods just knew. They're, in my head, man, in my head!
I should have known you were responsible. I walked to the Gov'met Center to get the new "Real ID" and it was calm and beautiful. I come out 30 minutes later and there is a Boxster gale blowing.

So, for the real ID thingie do they just reissue your driver license through it's regular expiration or do they redo eye test and all that stuff? I, of course, had to renew last fall so ID is worthless **** for flying soon. I know all of the proof crap I'd need to bring.

Mine was about to expire so they did the whole boat. I don't know what they do if your license isn't about to expire. I would imagine it would be good for the entire regular term from the date you got the new one.

They had it posted at the DMV that our regular Cracker Jack box license is still good to fly with until October, 2020.

I have no idea when Nebraska switched over to Real ID but I was never asked to bring anything special into the DMV and my license has the Gold Star.

Ah, the good of days when you might be assumed to be a citizen after being born here in the USA and living here all of your life? Now you need a passport or birth certificate, proof of social security number and proof of residence.

Maybe Nebraska was already doing enough. I had to bring in my old DL, something that proved my residency and address - I chose a property tax statement, and my birth certificate and social security card to establish citizenship, I suppose. While you may not have had to produce these to renew perhaps you had to when you initially got a Nebraska DL?

Yep, I had to bring all that last October when I needed to renew my license and decided it was optimum time to do the Real ID thing. I drove to the Boone County Courthouse and didn't wait in line one bit. The gal there said the renewal period (mine was 5 years) is up to the system, and there's not a standard length. Of course I was in a bit of a time crunch that day -- was home 2 days since being gone a week, needed to board a plane that day to fly to Oregon for DD and family's earlybird daughter stuff, AND my license expired the day before. I know I had 30 days to renew, but wasn't about to try to get through TSA (even with precheck) using an expired license. Also didn't want to take my passport. Plus I would be renting a car in Oregon and needed a valid license to do so. Thank goodness it all worked out.

Today was the cherry on Chicago area vacation sundae. Went to Woodstock, IL which I learned was where Groundhog Day one my favorite movies of all time was made. So cool. Fun trip, I've to see sights of some of my favorite films, spend quality time with my Illinois family, and enjoy some of the best food on the planet. But I can't wait to get back to my sweet home back in central Iowa.

Speaking of vacations & Minnesota...

90% chance we're heading up next week to see the other set of in-laws way up north. (Grand Rapids area) Usually, we'd take 35 north as far as it would make sense, then meander our way up to route 2, then head west. Google maps has us taking 494 in TC to 101, and then 169 up. But I think, if I'm interpreting it correctly, I'm seeing construction on 494. We'd probably be hitting TC late lunchtime.

What say you, Minnesotans?

35W is a mess. I'd avoid it if at all possible. 35E to 27 to 73 to 2 might be a good option.

Not exactly sure.
I went to the 10 year and only saw about 2 or 3 people I wanted to see. The rest were just as irritating (or more if that is even possible) as they were when we were in school. I have no intention to going to another in a long time. The only good thing was the biplane I stumbled upon on my trip home. I stopped to look at it when it landed and the pilot offered to take me up. Winning!

That reminds me, I should be getting notice about the 35 year reunion here in a few months.

One positive about not being on Facebook, that’s the way my class notifies about them. Can’t go if you don’t know. Easy excuse when asked why I didn’t go afterwards.

At softball tourney. Got burger from concessions, not good by the way, and dude behind me asks for nachos. Guy working the counter asks, with cheese? I mean seriously, who orders nachos without cheese? That would just be tortilla chips.

So - the pie story. Saturday morning I baked a pecan pie and a large apple pie. I had also baked brownie bites ala @Cybirdy (I have made those SO many times since she gave me that tip!), blond brownie bites, and mini blueberry & chocolate chip muffins on Friday. But then I started doing a mental head count and realized 17 adults & two pies would not be very successful, so after the apple pie came out of the oven I prepped another pecan pie and started it baking. Then I sat down with people to play a game, thinking "yay! everything is done early for once!" A while later I got up to get some water and realized I had never taken the pie out of the oven. Never smelled smoke or anything. Also never set the timer. Ooops. The pecans were well-blackened. Panic mode - 2 kids, 2 granddaughters and I joined forces to bake a third pecan pie which came out of the oven shortly before people started arriving. Phew!

Another change we made this year. We always allow the kids to go through the line first & get their dinner, and have usually allowed them to hit the desserts first as well. Last year there were seven or eight pieces of pie left behind on the kids' table with one or two bites out of them. So we flipped the script and the adults got first crack at the pies. Worked beautifully because the adults enjoyed the pie and the kids were thrilled with the bite-size treats. Win!

I am useless for this one since I never go north of the cities anymore. Only advice I'd give is to check MN511 and to not be trying to drive north on a Friday or Saturday.

My sarcastic, but likely accurate, take is "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
