Maritime museum and lift bridge are neat, There was a big ore boat you could take a tour of (The William something maybe?) Boat tour of the harbor. Fitgers by the lake served a great pepperjack chedder burger. They mixed the cheese right in the meat then rolled it in a batter and deep fried it, really good, pretty spicy, and probably not a bit good for you.

If you have an extra day go up North Shore Drive I haven't been up there since they've redone the road. Gooseberry Falls is neat and some easy trails to walk.

My recommendations are many yrs old so take them with a grain of salt. I'm sure tomorrow some of the Mn RTTers can give you more current info.

You pretty much covered it. If you've been there once you pretty much never need to go back.

Lordy, don't think I've been up there since doing a public meeting presentation on how the Corps of Engineers was going to implement a new program authorized by legislation that the late Rep. Jim Oberstar introduced. One of the best work compliments I ever got happened that night. Was done and taking questions and after I answered one Rep. Oberstar leaned over to my microphone and said "Let me add an amen to that!". Guess I had handled the question well. One of the greatest representatives Minnesota ever had and those idiots in the Iron Range voted him out one term, the morons.

Survived the WIsconsin trip, saw lots of relatives I don't get to see very often. We set up for the big bash on Friday, and it was miserable.......very hot and sticky, no breeze. We were all worried that Saturday would be the same.

Turned out to be a gorgeous day - started cool, overcast, and rainy, but cleared off and about 78 degrees with a nice breeze.

Everyone had a great time, especially the kids....my nephew has tons of stuff for them, lots of big outdoor toys, a neat combination fort/raised platform, two pools (one for the little kids and one for the big kids), plus he has a train that he tows behind his lawn tractor that they all love.

Lots of big, expensive fireworks after dark courtesy of my brother, and then a bonfire. Nephew's neighbor got way drunk and decided to throw an old plastic chair with a broken leg into the fire. Of course it got way too hot and we all had to back off for awhile.

All in all, a wonderful 4 days. :)

Btw, looking to go up around Duluth. What is interesting up there?
We're going for a long weekend either the weekend of July 20 or August 3 (probably this one). We haven't been there in something like 8 or 9 years.

The harbor boat tour was a highlight. You end up learning a lot about the steel industry, the shipping industry and about how Duluth was being planned for being a much larger city.

The ore boat tour was cool. The scenic train ride was OK but a little long. Exploring Canal Park is my favorite part of visiting Duluth. We also did Gooseberry Falls which was very much worth it. The aquarium was worth an hour or so.

The Spirit Mountain Adventure Park has a lot to do. We're going to try that this time. We'll probably do another boat tour. We're going to spend a day visiting Gooseberry Falls and The Split Rock Light House up the North Shore. Be sure to take the scenic lake road one way (if you do go). We're also planning to tour the infamous Glensheen Mansion. We keep hearing that visiting the hatchery on the north side of Duluth can be spectacular if you catch the salmon at the right time. Make sure you eat (or at least get a drink) at Grandma's and Fitger's.

Puss & Boots (the outdoor cats) have been scarce lately because we've had a grandson here for a couple of weeks and he's kind of noisy. Boots showed up yesterday with a gimpy leg. Heading to the vet with him in a few minutes. :(
We had perfect weather for our party on Saturday also. 10 grandkids plus 3 extras, plus 17 adults. Lots of stuff to do and the guys set up a great fireworks show (apologies to @cowgirl836 but it's an annual tradition around here). I'll tell you about the multiple pecan pie disaster later. :)

I have to say one thing about ABATE of Iowa. They do a ton of work for that rally, They do a real good job of keeping trash collected even though by the end it starts getting hard to keep up. They have large containers everywhere for cans. They probably had 5 times as many kybos as there were at the Liberty Bowl and they were pumped out something like 4 times a day.

That land they purchased is beautiful.

Today has not went badly yet. Just got out of going to wife's HS class reunion. Don't have to listen to her male classmates talk about HS football or who they slept with. It's that day every five years that I just dread, around people I have nothing in common with (because they are still in HS mentally) and eat a meal that isn't that great. Yeah, me.

BTW, who goes to their class reunions? I went to my fifth and that was it.
I went to the 10 year and only saw about 2 or 3 people I wanted to see. The rest were just as irritating (or more if that is even possible) as they were when we were in school. I have no intention to going to another in a long time. The only good thing was the biplane I stumbled upon on my trip home. I stopped to look at it when it landed and the pilot offered to take me up. Winning!

That reminds me, I should be getting notice about the 35 year reunion here in a few months.

Make sure you pack for any weather. We were enjoying 78 degrees when chilling in Gooseberry Falls* and then it dropped to 55 in the 6.5 miles to Split Rock. I make a fashion statement and wear my pants with zip off legs whenever up there because the weather changes so much by location and minute to minute.

*Make sure you bring some type of water shoe or something else to wear on your feet while wading at the falls. It is fantastic but a rock river bed so it can be tough on the feet if you try it barefoot.

Alrighty, wind is gusting to 23 mph again. Back to normal conditions.

Never even said "biking" out loud. The wind gods just knew. They're, in my head, man, in my head!
