Again, the issue isn't Desousa, it's Ku basketball. I would have let him transfer and play next year after sitting out this one. I'd then nut-kick Ku. Vacate all wins and championships in which Desousa played. Put Ku on probation for two years, no NCAA tournament, no TV. That would help put an end to this crap. Desousa's a pawn, Self's the king.
So silly.

Now you're copying and pasting posts from the single biggest lunatic on phog.net? Good grief.

I will note that every major "usual talking head" in the college basketball media forum HAS spoken up against the absurdly harsh punishment. Bilas, Vitale, DeCourcy, Parrish, etc.. The ONLY writer who didnt proclaim it absurd was of course, notable Mizzou alum Pat Forde, who makes half his salary spazzing out about Kansas.

So you attack the poster, but what about his claims? If he was indeed wearing what was claimed, where did that come from? If his parents are asking for $2,500 for him to take classes I don't imagine they're in a position to buy him those things.

So silly.
I think I've proven to you to be an objective fan of ISU, so I am asking a serious question about this post. What is silly about Surly's\Shirley's post?

Again, the issue isn't Desousa, it's Ku basketball.
You think KU is innocent? I'm guessing that Bill knew more about this transaction than DeSousa.

If you agree with me, then surly's punishment isn't that our of line. (Although vacating all wins and championships... does seem a bit extreme.) If you disagree that Bill's texts, and admission of some of the things that goes on is not acknowledging some guilt, then I think your objectivity is a bit too clouded.

Punishment needs to get amped up to clean this stuff up. And I'm not naive enough to believe that ISU didn't do a bit of the under the table stuff in the past. In fact I was witness to a buddy of mine with connections to the East coast take care of a couple dudes way back under Floyd. I'm hoping that when Tim left so did his underhanded crap.

It's silly because there is no evidence that Kansas was involved in it at all other than playing a player that the ncaa told them was cleared to play.

You said it yourself "I am guessing that Bill Self knew more..." Is a "guess" really what should be needed to punish a school? It's fime to speculate when it's your rival but you would freak out if ISU was put on probation because they "guessed the coach knew more than they could prove." Sorry, but I am not OK with the grossly incompetent NCAA requiring only gut intuition and a "guess" to base their rulings on. They can't even reach a coherent conclusion with hard evidence half the time (looking at you, North Carolina).

And it is absurdly naive to think that putting Kansas on probabtion stops shoe companies from wanting to get their claws into players. It doesn't at all. The basketball shoe industry had a billion in sales last year and Nike has a massive market share. They spend big bucks hoping to land the next LeBron James and Adidas spends big bucks trying to get a bigger chunk of that market share.

They dont care about schools other than how much money they can get out of them and these kids, same as the NCAA. Kansas getting slapped for a few years doesn't change their business model one bit.

Be honest. Do you really think Kansas getting walloped will change ANYTHING or would you just enjoy seeing Kansas get walloped? No need to answer, we all already know it.

Not sure who that is directed to, but I would appreciate all of the schools that the FBI has data on be punished. That would make a difference. I don't want KU punished anymore than any other school. KU being good is always going to be good for the Big XII and ISU. A bad UT has been terrible for our conference.

I think you're missing the point of @stateofmind's post. He's asking if you, personally, believe that Bill Self is innocent. He's not asking if there is enough evidence that has been shown to convict him in any kind of trial or in any sort of hearing.

There's a big difference between "not guilty" and innocent. This may be the biggest cause of stress in the lives of criminal defense attorneys.

Everybody knew that Rick Pitino was dirty but, even though there was plenty of smoke, there was never any fire within the suspicions and accusations. Guess what. Somebody found the fire on Pitino. There's an awful lot of smoke swirling around Bill Self.

I think you'd find that ISU fans would enjoy seeing Iowa get walloped but we don't think they deserve to get walloped (Who in the world would pay to recruit Cordell Pemsl and Ryan Kriener?). We believe that Kansas deserves to get walloped.

I won't spwculate on what goes on with the KU staff. That is a world outsude my own. No clue what has happened but nothing would surprise me.

And if fire is found with KU/Self I have no problem with the agreed upon consequences being faced.

But to steal from your analogy, DeSousa is being punished for 2 years instead if 10 games because someone told the NCAA that there was fire. They didnt actuall find any evidence of one.

Isn't testimony considered evidence? If he's lying as you must be claiming, why isn't the family taking him to court right now?

From another board:

https://www.al.com/articles/7558832/nca ... n_rule.amp

The NCAA Legislative Council on Wednesday officially passed a new rule designating any parent as an agent if he or she is found to be soliciting the services of a son or daughter to an NCAA institution, according to a report by CBSSports.com . The rule closes a loophole that allowed Heisman Trophy-winner and Auburn star Cam Newton to continue playing during Auburn's 2010 national championship season after it was discovered that his father, Cecil Newton, solicited Cam's services to Mississippi State for $180,000.

"It essentially closes the loophole," council chair Carolyn Campbell-McGovern told CBSSports.com.

Under NCAA Bylaw 12, the rule now states that:

" ... an agent is any individual who, directly or indirectly, represents or attempts to represent an individual for the purpose of marketing his or her athletics ability or reputation for financial gain ..." PC5000

That's a great move, and hopefully will put a check on this BS of payoffs "without the player's knowledge" wink, wink. Hard to believe it took them this long after Cam Newton to come up with it.

Other than a KU coach talking to the Adidas bag man right after the drop?

This is the first year during the streak that ku hasn't had a undeniable gap in over everyone else in talent and the results are speaking for themselves.

1) The heat was on and they couldn't cheat to get the 5 stars they usually do.

2) If turd self pulls this off I will give him some credit as an actual basketball coach, not just a Phil Jackson type withe the best talent who usually sits back and watches. @randomfan44 , what I'm saying is that it is easy to win when you have the best players that money can buy.

Sorry to hear the reality train left without you.

1) Kansas signed three McDonalds All Americans plus an under the radar Top 100 local kid from KC who is probably the most likely NBA player on our roster.

2) Bill Self being exposed as a mediocre coach isn't what is going on. Kansas has zero experience in their back court, three freshmen perimeter players, their Top 10 recruit isn't playing like you need a Top 10 recruit to play if ypu need him to start right away, their only senior is a flaky moron, their best big starter and best big off the bench are both out for the season and last night our best defender is out injured.

You have created this whole zingy story that fits your silly narrative but it isn't based on reality at all.

Yep. Self is the victim here too I guess. He had nothing to do with the lack of depth. If only his primary recruiter wasn't facing federal prison time, maybe he could have picked up another big man.
