Septoplasy and Turbinate reduction?

I am just wondering how your recovery time was and any other advice you may have. I just had mine this morning and have been doing ok. They only had to pack stuffing in one side of my nose. What worries me is that I am still having to change out the gauze under my nose since it still leaking blood.

I also wonder how I will feel to travel 5 hours tomorrow to Iowa for my Aunts 40th birthday party Saturday. If it is still crappy we may wait until Saturday.

Also wanting to hear if anyone has had bad luck with the final results and/or really good outcomes. I am really looking forward to being able to breath through my nose on a daily basis and when I am running. I am hoping it helps get my lung capacity back up. I have had problems since I was 15-16 and finally had enough of my wife complaining about sleep and my sudden decrease in distance running ability.

I had it done about 9 years ago. You will like the results, one side of mine is tons better, the other is better than before, but not as good as the other.

Mine bled like you say for several days. If I recall correctly, your tomorrow will be worse than your today, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The 3rd and 4th days it gets better. The worst day is when you have to go back for them to yank out the upper gauze, if you have it. That was honestly the most painful experience I've ever had, but it sure felt good to get it out. Hopefully you don't have that upper gauze.

Overall, you will have to wait a few weeks to really notice a difference in breathing, for the swelling to completely go away. I get bloody snot (not bloody nose) in the dry months, but it doesn't really affect breathing or anything else except color of your snot when I blow my nose. I never got or get full blown bloody noses.

All in all, I would definitely do it again. The recovery is more annoying than anything else. You will get "tastes" of what it is like to breath through your nose during the recovery, as the bleeding/swelling momentarily secedes.

I had mine done a couple of years ago. Both sides packed, and it was literally the week from hell..It was worth it, but I would not recommend travel. Stay home, watch TV, play with your computer and give it time.

I had to wait longer than that, it was something like 3-7 days (long time ago) so maybe yours won't be so bad.

Got this and my sinuses done a few years ago - never snored or anything, just couldn't breathe. I can only echo what everyone has already said. Pain wasn't bad, but it was NOT pleasant when something accidentally bumped my nose for the next month or so.

I hope you get to feeling better soon - I'm guessing you won't have to flush out your sinuses with just doing this? Since I did this and my sinuses at the same time, I had to rinse them out - SO GROSS.

I've given myself shots and other icky things over the years... and washing out my sinuses was probably the nastiest. Keep us updated.

For those that have had it done, does it help with snoring at all? My wife says that I am getting worse over the years, and an ENT specialist said that the surgery could lessen the snoring.

He told me I was about 90% blocked on one side, but I guess I've never really thought it was that bad. Of course, it's been like that pretty much my whole life, so I wouldn't know otherwise. I'm concerned that I will go through all the troubles of having the surgery only to find that there's not much difference afterward. Are the results noticably better, and would you do it again? Thanks in advance.

My daughter had her turbinates done when she was 3. She seemed to recover very quickly and did not have any probems. But then again she was only 3.

Can't say much about snoring, I've been lucky not to do it before or after.

There is a big difference. I pretty much had to breathe out of my mouth most of the time before, especially when running or exercising.

I would definitely do it again.

Those were the words I was looking for. I am very excited about being able to breathe through my nose while exercising and playing sports.

To clarify a bit, I normally can breathe in through nose, but I still breathe out through mouth during exercise.

If the thought of having the surgery is concerning, you can always become a cocaine addict and induce septal perforation. Of course, there are some additional side effects to consider.

That is the way you are supposed to do it I believe. Anything will be better than what I had up until yesterday.

I had my septum and nose rebuild after I shattered it.

I had no problems at all. Couple days off work. Taking the packing out is NOT fun, but it only takes 10 seconds. Good luck with all of it.
