He had one good point, if ISU can get to a consistent 6-8 wins season every year, this game will be interesting for both of us. The upside is not much for Iowa beating the Clones, but the downside is pretty bad. Plus Iowa wants to get 4 cupcakes to have scrimmages to start the season of 4-0 always. UNI and ISU get in the way of that. This game is good for the state, they should keep it.

This is the first time I have listened to Jon talk and I do not follow him on twitter. But I even understand that he has literally made money being a professional troll. Me and my Hok friends joke about how ridiculously sensitive cyclone fans get about what he says, but love when Cowherd trolls them. It was a good podcast if you don't take a thing Jon says seriously.

I didn't take him serious for one second. Still bad listening. Its just because i can picture his face making stupid comments for the sake of making stupid comments. Its so 90s. :) I think the SPORTS world has moved on a decade ago. Then again Stephen A, and Skip Bayless still have jobs.

No, that isn't a good point. That's the classic hawk troll mentality.
If ISU is so bad, then don't play your buy games and go schedule someone you consider a top tier P5 school. Why is ISU holding back Iowa from scheduling Arizona, Pittsburg, Oregon, Stanford (haha), etc? You don't have to schedule North Texas, or a directional Michigan school every year.

Finally, when has a loss to ISU been such a downside? A case can maybe be made for 2002. ISU was their only loss. But were they really going to jump Ohio State (13-0) or Miami (12-0) to get into the National Championship? I say no.
Instead they got the Orange Bowl and got spanked by USC.

Yes we all know ISU is historically bad. Tell us again about the 8 wins in the past 3 years.
But don't act like ISU is holding Iowa back. If you're such a superior program, win more often.

Then why waste time listening?

Let's see if I got this straight...
  1. Cowherd trolls Hawk fans; Cyclones fans chuckle.
  2. Miller trolls Cyclone fans; (some) Cyclone fans lose their ever-loving minds.
...makes perfect sense.

Also...
Technical question: is Miller a (sports) journalist?

So checking out his resumé, what on earth is his connection to U of I?

Way up there
As CW said, sounds like this mashup had more to do with a common sponsor. The thing I don't get is the "different perspective" angle, everyone knows what JM is going to say, it's not a new and interesting, so that's a cop out. This was for clicks and listens, it had nothing to do with bringing a new perspective. Throwing out a controversial piece early in the week sounds like a great way to get traffic flowing for rivalry week.

I think you are missing his point. If Iowa schedules easy teams, other than ISU. The easy teams will not take the Iowa game seriously and come to lose. A bad ISU teams will still give everything they got against a good Iowa team because of instate rivalry (Hawk trolls call it little brother syndrome). It is like how UNI shows up against us or Iowa. For Iowa if they win, the win does not help with rankings, if they lose, it impacts their chances for good bowl games. So why not schedule an easy team who will come in to take the beating for a check.

ISU plays in one of the toughest leagues in the nation with nine conference games. Drop the Qwaks, lets get some UNI level teams, get three wins and try to get three in conference for a bowl game. Playing 10 P5 teams is hard and the 8 wins in the last 3 years shows that.

I told myself there's no way I'm listening to this idiot, and then tonight, I just did.

What a waste of time I'll never get back. Easily the worst podcast I've listened to on this site. First off CW, you got walked all over by Jon, and didn't stand up for ISU nearly enough IMO.

But most importantly, I can't believe what a d-bag Jon is. He comes out in the first few minutes and makes some idiotic comment about how he doesn't care who his daughter marries..... as long as they love God. Wut? Seriously buddy? So if your daughter fell madly in love with someone, but they didn't love your idea of "God", or were agnostic, atheist, etc, etc.... then you wouldn't support her marrying him? Grow up. Why so much hatred in you?

But even worse than that about him is that he stands for absolutely NOTHING, and is a complete fraud as a human being. He is one of those that spouts off opinion after opinion, most of which you know he deep down believes, but if you ever come face to face with the guy he'll say.... "you believed that? I was just trolling you. Are you too dumb to know when you're being trolled?". So, in the end, nothing he says can ever be believed, and so is absolutely meaningless, and he stands for nothing.

CW.... if he is truly a great friend of yours, you better step back an rethink that IMO. I mean... how can you be sure when he says you're his friend that he isn't just trolling you?

I'm sure Chris knows him personally at a level we're not privy to. Right Chris? .....Right?

Otherwise, I do not know how else one would subject one's self to that level of condescension. Nothing from Jon comes off as genuine except the condescension. He's skilled at masking it with make-up compliments but it's all negated by the ugly way he talks to/about people.

I'd be willing to be this had more to do with a paid advertiser giving both websites money.

Just my 2 cents.

I'll listen, but not because I expect great insight from John. If I wanted a good Cyhaw

I think the reaction has been too strong, but those aren't the same things. John isn't just a troll. He trolls constantly, but every now and then you get to see what he really thinks and you see that he is the 100%, point for point poster boy of a stereotypical hawk fan:
1. He didn't go to school there
2. He's a fair weather fan
3. He has an over inflated view of what hawks are
4. He's condescending to Iowa State fans.

I think the fact that he so perfectly represents what the stereotype of a hawk fan is is the reason why even hawk fans don't like him.

So I've skipped a lot of comments on here because this thread went completely mad (#hawkeyestansbury), but I wanted to say that I enjoyed the pod. I skipped the first 18 minutes or so based on earlier comments (and a time constraint) and JM really was pretty good, and fairly insightful. He's a tavernhawk talking head. He's a personality, as he noted on the pod, and he's going to pander to that crowd. Everyone who takes that BS as gospel from a guy like JM already believes it, so what difference does it make. Shoot it down on Twitter, maybe, but it's not worth the anger he's getting on here.

Now actually to the podcast, I do wish Chris had stuck up for the Cy-Hawk game a bit more. They can't replace ISU with any team they should usually beat and not come across the same national criticism. Though I do wonder if it needs to be played every year. Also I agree with both CW's and JM's perspectives on the matchup, but I'm not sure why both have ISU winning. Based on a large sample of games against a consistent Iowa program, this looks like a classic game for Iowa to eat the clock, control the game, and take their three to ten point victory. Next year ISU will finally have all the pieces it needs to try to make amends at Kinnick. I'd happily eat crow, however, because beating Iowa makes a bowl game almost probable. A loss signals a likely 5-7. A win could lead to 7-5.
