I haven’t read every post so I’m sure this has already been mentioned but Ian Parker won his 3rd place match and is a national team member now. Congrats to a former cyclone!

I always thought it was crazy he was never an all American. I used to say I wish he’d go up to 149 and wrestle a weight that fit him better. Now he’s up to 70kg and wrestling the best he’s ever looked. He’s built himself up into a good sized 70kg and made a world team, good work.

One of the main jobs of an RTC athlete is to be at workouts and wrestle with the college guys. And if David is traveling for months as many have said then that's months that he's not helping the college guys. So if he had partners in Ames him and his partner or partners would also be helping the college guys. Because EVERYONE here is a fan of the college team FIRST

He’s not traveling for months and they bring in partners to Ames all the time for him on top of the guys already in the room.

He’s still training in Ames quite a bit with Coleman, now Rocky, Reineri, Ech, and our middle weight guys. In today’s day and age, these athletes are traveling all over the place to train- including guys coming to Ames to train with David. If he wants to go train for a 2-3 weeks with Burroughs, that’s fine by me. He’s still spending most of his time in Ames and he is getting better training with the CRTC. Odd hill to die on here when the CRTC is doing a pretty damn good job of bringing guys in with the resources we have

My narrative is literally the same as David’s. He can win in Ames and he quite literally just did that. Sorry you were wrong.

David has a WTT qualifier at the Olympic weight above him. Someone who has proven to be competitive domestically at 86kg.

There is also a U23 world teamer from 70kg last year.

His training situation is similar to Spencer Lee who mainly has Ayala and Desanto.

It would be great if there was a top guy around his weight that wanted to come into Ames, but the fact is David is having a ton of success right where he is. So, it is not a a necessity.

You could easily argue David has a better training situation than Lee but nobody says Lee needs to leave Iowa City. It’s such a weird argument.

I think their situations are extremely comparable. Neither program has an RTC like OSU, PSU, or Michigan. But you don’t have to be in those programs to win.

The weirdest thing to me is that we can’t get an elite middleweight to want to come train with David. Like what are the Larkins waiting for? Facundo, Dee, etc. It just doesn’t compute.

Watched the US Open match (Carr/Mesenbrink) for the first time. It was much closer than that final score. Feels like that first challenge brick flipped the whole match. So glad for Carr's wins yesterday. Hope he gets a gold at Worlds.

Totally agree on the USOpen match , that called changed the whole dynamic of that match

Quick take. I understand what you are trying to say but that’s not how RTC works. No one trains with only one or two guys. They all travel to work out with new partners even the elite RTC. RTC athletes only train/compete for a short time period throughout the year and are expected to work out during the folkstyle season with the team. You don’t have to be elite to be a great wrestling partner. Lastly, Metcalf still has it and gives Carr all he wants and more.

Because his performances against people he had beaten in the past wasn't as good. When he's the "guy" and people are chasing him he's different. When he's the underdog and feels no pressure he shines . Last night he shined and I was happy for him. Just because I have opinions doesn't mean I don't like David

Were these matches for the world team or Olympic team? If we are talking tournaments that don’t put you on one of these, you aren’t thinking and listening. Seems David is focusing on the ones that matter. Sounds like he was using these other matches to test things out and try things. He was using them like scrimmages, figure things out for when it matters.
