I just took a work assignment in Springfield, MO during the week preceding the Iowa State football game with Arkansas State in Jonesboro, AR. So, that means that I can drive and haul some tailgate gear. Just wanted to put that out there for anyone else who might be interested in joining me down there.

I live about 4 hours from Ark St and am considering a road trip for that game

Curious your logistics, have you driven that before?

No, I haven't driven it before. I was assuming that Jonesboro would be closer to Springfield than it is, but it is closer than Ames. Here is my tentative plan:

On Wednesday, drive from Ames to Springfield with my truck loaded with tailgate gear.
On Thursday, work in Springfield.
On Friday, drive from Springfield to Jonesboro.
On Saturday, tailgate and game in Jonesboro.
On Sunday, meet with friends in Little Rock.
On Monday, drive from Little Rock to Ames.

Any suggestions?

In the coming months, I'll probably spend some time on the Arkansas State fan sites to get advice about tailgating, etc. Have you been there before?

I’m assuming you are used to driving long distances pulling a trailer and solo on this trip. The route from Springfield east on 60 is good and when you catch 63 around Willow Springs thru West Plains it doesn’t get interesting until you get to Thayer at the Ark border. Around there it starts getting twisty until you get to the flats west of Jonesboro and it’s clear sailing. Takes about 4 hours or so. The drive from Jonesboro to Little Rock is a couple hours. I’ve driven from Springfield to Hot Springs via Little Rock and from those places north is an adventure, not for the timid. You’ll probably go thru Fayetteville to Joplin so that may not be so bad. But Little Rock to Ames is a 10 hour drive so don’t stay up partying all night or the next day drive will be memorable!

Thanks. I appreciate the heads up.

I probably won't bring my tailgate trailer, unless it seems like it is turning into something bigger. I will probably just throw some tailgate gear into the bed of my truck. And maybe try to find some friendly Arkansas State fans to connect with.
