How can that be? He's only 6'7 and we need someone 6'8 or taller

i don't know about everyone else but if I see a guy that is 6'7" 235 and a guy that is 6'8" 240 on the court at the same time I can immediately just see the difference. It's like, one is huge and the other isn't that much bigger than me.

The 6'7" guy appears to be about 6'4" while the 6'8" guy seems closer to 6'10".

Personally I hope we don't need a grad transfer would much rather have a couple multi year players (sit out,JUCO or freshmen) and use Bowie, Malou, Burton and Young as our front court rotation. We have at 5 guards prohm has said are Big 12 rotation worthy (Monte,Naz,Thomas,Babb,Jackson). That is 9 guys right there. Now say Young isn't ready yet to play spot minutes (I doubt this) what grad transfer is worthy to really warrant a minute reduction? So far i'd say Livingston because he'd give us a different look when needed but to act like we need two front court grad transfers is crazy, in fact I would argue it isn't feasible. If the right guy is available great we go for him otherwise we continue to build for our future. I am fine with upgrading for the future and putting the best team for next year but we aren't going to play 13 guys. Someone has to sit and why not have that be a sit out transfer. We have had I ne at least every year I can remember.

Plus there are 3 guys I didn't mention that played non mop up minutes that aren't mentioned above in Cooke, Ashton and Carter. Sure one or 2 of these guys may leave but the folks on here act like minutes grow on trees. We have 5 guys likely to get most of our minutes leaving at the end of the year. I really don't want a huge cliff because we didn't get a few guys underneath an opportunity. So for me if I could take 2 more it would be Livingston and a sit out guard.

I think both grad transfers we've been linked to would be better options than Young next year. A JUCO would probably be the best case scenario because then we wouldn't lose so much after next season but we haven't exactly had great luck with Spring JUCO's before.

Best case scenario would be if Dembele was able to contribute a little next season. He has size and four years of eligibility. I think he may be a little raw, but if he was capable of rebounding and being a paint presence next year, he would be a better option than most of the grad transfers.

Isn't he expected to make his decision within the next month or so?

Not sure why everyone is counting out Ernst already, I think he will end up being a pretty good player if he can fully recover from his knee. IMO he already looked better than Carter.

Surprised we haven't started analyzing arm length and body fat requirements for prospects on the grad transfer market the staff should target yet...
:perr:

(honestly though it is impossible to just use height as a criteria to who would be good. Burton is an example of a small post player with strength and long arms and allowing him to finish in the post. Hok's Woodbury is the opposite. 7'+ Woody isn't better than the 6'4" Burton in that comparision IMO, especially in Prohm's system)

He played played 14 minutes this year. There's no way to tell who'll be a better player

I'm not sure I would label either one of them as 'better' at this point, as we just don't have a great sample size to compare. I will say, however, that Ernst appears to have the desire and drive to work hard to contribute and be a good player. That, alone, makes me optimistic and excited to see what he can do - not only this year, but the following 3 years as well. Not every great Cyclone player was great from day 1. Most of the time it is the opposite.

True, I was just judging from an eye test of warmups which I know is totally unreliable but is the only info I have. To add to this there is no way Prohm was going to pull both their redshirts (Carter and Ernst) if he didn't think one or both had a decent chance to develop into a contributor (in an extremely thin post) later in the year.

There is no way to tell who is better between Ernst and Carter.
It would be great to get some stuf grad transfer but I don't think that's going to happe so getting a bench guy to come in for 10 good minutes a game is definitely a plus.
