One thing to consider here...it would not surprise me if Candle at Toledo was looking to offer Manning the OC job at Toledo? Manning is said to be a top recruiter and stud Oline coach and rising star in the profession..I'm just thinking outside the box here but kinda wonder of Candle was looking to steal him.

That could be, but still not sure if it qualifies him to be an OC at a Power 5 school. Typical progression to OC at P% is OC at mid major or position coach at P5, which are considered somewhat equal. Based on the salary survey posted yesterday, Manning was making 90,000 last year at Toledo. BIG jump to coordinator in the B12.

Now I'm paranoid about MY posts! And honestly think he meant "disturbing" and auto-correct stepped on his johnson. Which I disagree with as well - being disturbed by the hire that is.
I thought he wanted to use disconcerting

I'm nervous about the hire, but he knows what he's doing more than I do, so I trust him.

Its not like a coach comes into the profession and is tagged with MAC level/Big 12 level. It is the ability to coach what is available and if you can do that, facilities like ours vs Toledo only increase chances to land high rated recruits. I like the CMC hire and I trust he knows what he is doing. Time will tell.

Here's the difference:

The offense is Campbell's baby. I don't think he'd mess it up by hiring someone he doesn't have faith in.

CMC says he was basically co-OC at Toledo and had a hand in game-planning, play-calling, etc...

Not really his first rodeo is what it sounds like.

What kind of offense does CMC run? Will it be out of the pistol formation kinda like last year?

I was excited by the hiring of CMC, but after the nepotism of bringing all-things-Toledo... I'm a bit dismayed. Seriously? The only person we could find to step into a B12 OC coaching position is a Toledo position coach?

One thing I loved about Hoiberg when he came to ISU is that he brought an old sage with him to help him out early. I sure would have loved to see CMC admit his youth in a P5 and hire a couple of old sages to help out.

Praying I'm overwhelmingly shocked when bowl-season rolls around next year! I'll gladly come on here and eat crow!!! In fact, I'll gladly change my user-name to TXCrowEater (tastes like chicken)!

A lot if dumb in this thread. He is responsible for winning and his career is on the line. If he feels manning is capable, he would know. Sometimes hiring the guy you know and trust is the least risky move because they are a known quantity. Much easier to gamble on the QB coach than risk a toxic hire at OC if you got a guy on staff that you need to keep on staff that will do well.

Honest question.
What would you have liked to see?
Since I kind of agree with cycocyclone, I'll answer this too. I'd prefer to see a position coach from a successful p5 school or an oc from a smaller school. It's not that I don't think he can be a good coach, but bringing in a bunch of coaches from Toledo makes me a bit nervous.

Position coach from p5 is an asinine requirement. Would you have felt better if it was Ayeni? Pretty sure Courtney Messingham was a position coach prior to being OC as well.
