I'm curious who people really wanted us to go get?
If we promoted a lower level OC, people would complain that they have no P5 experience.
If we hired a P5 coordinator who was recently part of a staff who was let go, they'd complain that they couldn't win at (insert former school).
There aren't too many top notch candidates that we are going to be able to pull in to ISU who have the qualifications that some people seem to require.

I personally think that you either go with a small school coordinator or a power five position coach (power five coordinator if you can get the right one). Not calling plays at Toledo to calling plays against Oklahoma just seems like a big jump to me. Campbell being involved in the offense makes a difference to some extent. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

I wonder if other programs were reaching out to him and MC bumped him.

This would seem to be a logical assumption. Also, guessing we'll complete the circle by choosing Heacock as the DC later today.

I'm assuming after Candle got the Toledo HC position, Manning was on Campbell's shortlist for OC- Manning was a Football Scoop OL coach of the year with Bill Bedenbaugh (OU), Mike Bloomgren (STAN), Mario Cristobal (AL). That is some pretty good company considering Cristobal was in the conversation for the Miami HC job and every single one of those teams is known for their OL talent and performance. I heard that Manning had a lot of input in the Offensive game plan and play calling at Toledo along with Candle. I honestly don't see this being much different than having Candle as our OC which many posters loved. I realize why there is scrutiny right now but I feel like this is as solid of a hire and we could have gotten ^^

What does this tell you? People can hope in one hand and **** in the other. Reality is that it's a monumental task to turn around the Iowa State football program and anyone who honestly believes Matt Campbell is the guy that's going to do it is probably not being very realistic. As fans of course you hope that is the case, but there's a difference between hoping and being realistic.

Campbell won some at Toledo, but Toledo was arguably the best coaching job in the MAC with all of the talent they have around them in Ohio. Iowa State is a completely different story. Quite frankly, it probably doesn't matter who these assistants are that are being hired, but it certainly should raise some red flags when he's bringing in guys who have very little experience at this level. Especially when he himself has very little experience at this level. I mean maybe that's what is needed, but again there's that pesky reality to deal with.

This hire is very discerning to me. I'm not saying he can't do the job, but Manning was option 3 at best. Why wasn't this announced immediately? Probably because campbell wanted someone else and couldn't get him

Or CMC has very discerning taste and he was negotiating the total financial package for his OC that he has worked with for years. Note I used the word "discerning" but in a different way.

Isn't it fun when people use big words to convey intelligence, but they use the wrong word, so they double down on sounding dumb?

I am a little surprised by this. But I like the young gun approach, so we'll have to see how this works out

Now I'm paranoid about MY posts! And honestly think he meant "disturbing" and auto-correct stepped on his johnson. Which I disagree with as well - being disturbed by the hire that is.

Maybe this was true years ago, but I do not believe its the case anymore. Yeah we are close to the bottom of the Big 12 right now, but look at the coaches we had during these times. None of them light the world on fire. Danny Mac had some success, but couldn't sustain it. Chizik got a once in a lifetime player at Auburn and got him a national title. Paul took some good recruits and won some games. Then a few years of poor recruiting turned into what we saw the last few years. Being in Ames doesn't hurt us like it use to. Recruits are willing to travel depending on coaches, facilities, and fan support. We have the money and the facilities and I think we have the coach to do it. We need a culture change and I can see that happening in the past month.

**** it. Youth movement. I'm all in.

I'm all in with U re The Youth Movement...btw the fans said the same thing about Donnie Duncan's staff being too young which of course included Bobby Elliott and Mack Brown who was Off Coordinator......

Funny how history seems to repeat itself ...time after time..............
