Bottom line, what you are proposing is much more risky than what I am proposing. That is a fact. If you think you're going to convince me that an nba coach and isu alum, is a more risky option than a coach that was taking interviews at Green Bay less than 1 year ago, you're nuts.
We know that Otz has enthusiasm and zeal for the most important part of college basketball - recruiting. We have no idea if Hornacek would.
Also, it was painful to watch the Suns this year. Every time I watched, the team didn't even play hard.

So Green Bay or Northern Kentucky were the interviews he might have not gotten hired for. Got it. I almost forgot about Northern Kentucky. Thanks for the reminder.

Or gotten hired for. He was offered interviews apparently but withdrew his name from consideration when he took the Iowa State job. Both schools are Division 1 low-majors that some want our next head coach to come from.

How did I miss that? Link?

i thought he said he was interested in the school and program itself outside of only Fred?

@DWolfsonKSTP: If Hoiberg takes Bulls job -- his if he wants -- cross ISU off Amir Coffey's list. 2016 Hopkins forward cleared next month after ACL tear.

Well, let's take that premise: A coach who might have been hired for a low major or one who was successful at a low major. By that criteria the choice would be pretty clear.

I'm not saying that Otz would be a bad hire, but let's not act like he is clearly the best candidate for this job. He may be the best available candidate, but that is a different story and one most of us are not privy to.

I think next years very talented team is going to need a lot of coaching to be as good as they should be. For the most part CFH was very good handling all of those egos. Hopefully the new coach can do the same.

Not saying anything one way or another. Just that there is little difference between Otz's current experience level of being a top flight assistant for about 10 years at a P5 Conference school and being a HC at a low-major.

IMO, with this team it all comes down to chemistry and how they fit. In terms of experience, Otz has about the same as Izzo did when he became head coach at age 40 at Michigan State. Never had been a head coach. Seemed to be a good fit.

I could see it working out great with Otz, but I hope we exhaust all top options in the search first. Behind the scenes who knows what is going on.

Are people really upset about how Fred turned this program around? What, you'd prefer he didn't come if he was just going to leave? Jesus people are stupid. He deserves his pay, it shouldn't make you sick. It doesn't even effect you.

There is a big difference. If there was a little difference Otz would've been up for the big jobs this offseason like those coaches were.

And your anecdotal evidence doesn't matter. You can find pretty much any background and give an anecdote about how 10 coaches with that background succeeded or failed.

Larry Eustachy was a drunk and he had the best season in ISU history. That doesn't mean we should go hire drunks.

Fred Hoiberg had no experience coaching, that doesn't mean we should go hire anybody who has no experience.
