East of Buchanan is getting pretty close to Beach isn't it? Trying to think of where one would fit in that area

I think that's where it's going. I think that's enough space to hold a dorm. Probably will be 8-9 story building is my guess.

Plenty of room on the existing area.

I've seen plans of the building, can't remember much on location but I just remember it being near a parking lot east of Buchanan. Looks like a very nice residence hall as well

I'm not sure they need 700 beds.

Well, if you include the jersey chasers. Its why they needed one at KU..

Testifying
buchanan is a dump

When I lived in Knapp there was a metal cage around the ground floor to protect people from falling chunks.
Workers spent a few months hammer drilling into the side of the building to help stiffen it as well.

There is a desperate need for more beds, so I'm not sure why you'd think this if you were looking at the information.

Even if enrollment drops down the line, this new dorm will offset the shortfalls later on, if (when) ISU demolishes and rebuilds Oak/Elm and BWR. Birch Hall is coming up on its 100th birthday in a handful of years.

Needed this last year. Glad to see they are finally getting something done. It will be interesting to see what campus looks like in 20 years.

I am not in the construction business, but to me, $49.5 million for a building that size seems to be more expensive than I would have thought.

It is design-build and a team hasn't been chosen, how have you seen plans?

only a study has been done to this point. considering an architect is yet to be chosen to design the building, i highly doubt you have seen plans of this building.

Once design-build teams are chosen, they will be sent a request for proposal that includes more specific information related to what is desired in the building. Teams will return their plans in the spring, with the final design-build team chosen after the plans have been submitted. Construction is anticipated to begin in May 2015 with the building projected to open to residents for the spring 2017 semester. - See more at: http://www.news.iastate.edu/news/2014/12/03/newresidence#sthash.CzVr9w9K.dpuf

I don't know whether he has seen anything or not, but Iowa State FP&M may have rough sketches of what they think the building might look like.
