I moved into the 4th floor of Welch. I didn't have anything to big and my dad, mom and girlfriend were helping so it went pretty quick.

The only thing that really stands out is after I unloaded my car I had to move it and on the way back to the dorm from where I parked the car I got lost. I had parked the car by the Keg Shop and looking back on the fact that I got lost between there and Welch makes me laugh and feel sorry for my apparently pathetic 18 year old self.

2001, Friley 5th floor, Niles-Foster. They wouldn't let us use the elevator, so that was sweet. I didn't have much though - my room was tiny and I had to share it. I think they might have re-designated that bad boy to a single.

The elevator was always broken. The one in Godfrey, at least.

Larch, 2003.

I threw my **** in the back of a late 80's F150 and hauled it down myself, including the case of beer I stole from my old man and threw in a cooler. I think I had two bags of clothes, a computer, a PS2, and a guitar.

I think I was the only kid on campus who didn't have their parents in tow. I met up with a buddy who was living on the other side of campus later that night, and we killed the case of beer between the two of us in about 2 hours, and then went to a house party thrown by people from a nearby town. I got a few girls's numbers, made out with a stranger, and woke up in a dorm room that was not inhabited by anyone I knew, and I couldn't find my shirt.

Needless to say, I was hooked on college.

Oh, yes, of course, I remember as if it were yesterday! I took the trolley to campus from the station, and then unpacked the Victrola from my steamer trunk, before throwing on my fedora and dashing off to the telegraph office to wire Mater that I had arrived, and that her whale oil lamps would be just dandy for my suite.

I think I did the early move in on a Thursday, 5th floor Friley, Bennett House....in fall of 1992. I was roommates with a buddy of mine from high school, so we loaded up his car and headed to campus. Drove up lincoln way and saw students everywhere....most memorable sight that day was at one of the frats they had a slip n slide setup and had girls sliding down a small hill, with a bunch of dudes pouring cheap beer over their heads. I thought that was badass, and obviously it was...

Folks came up on Saturday with more of my stuff, and we hauled up up the 5 flights of stairs. No loft or big stuff in our tiny room. Was glad to have a cd player, tv, and clean clothes mostly.....played the music loud, and met some of the people in the dorm. Was pretty fun, but nothing too exciting...

Helser Louden here. I moved in early because of band. Instead of purchase a loft kit for my roommate and myself my father decided it was cheaper to build one out of 4x4 (it wasn't). Up the stairs he is carry these beams and I just shake my head and head off to band. I come back and he has commandeered the hallways, and the sink side of the bathroom, power saws, saw horses, absolutely ridiculous. I don't remember him putting those in the van when we left so to this day I am convinced he went out an dropped $1000 on equipment to build this thing. End result, was wacking my head EVERY morning and getting a 7 inch wood splinter in my food and then just deciding I am going to hop down on a chair out of the loft every day, until my roommate moved it one night to watch porn or something at 4am and I jumped off, had that "uhhh I should have hit something by now" moment and ended up at the hospital for my knee which connected right on the metal front of those ghetto chairs.

End story was tearing it down at the end of the year. Bought my first sledge hammer because he obviously had to screw AND nail gun these boards together.

That was my only year in the dorms because they kicked out so they could tear it down (never happened) I ended up in a 4 bedroom Freddy apartment for the rest of my under grad and grad degree. No loft needed at that point.

You don't want to go there. My cat died because he missed me.

First floor Larch in '94. Move in day is typically the hottest stinking day of the summer, of course. My big memory was looking at four 2x4's and a couple chains and wondering how the heck they were going to hold up a bed with a person on it. I was pretty impressed once I figured out how to put it together.

Friley Hall - Godfrey. I moved my stuff in in about 15 minutes. I came in by airplane, so did not bring much with me. It was also my first time on campus!!!

Left Ohio about 6am. I had one box of clothes, one box of non goods, and a futon. The move in crew was waiting for me on the top floor of Roberts by the time I could even get my key. Hugged my dad one armed and off he went to the Des Moines to go to the state fair the next day.

That night I went around to the floor meeting the guys. Went to a party and did that classic get a gf within the first month. (At least I wasn't one of those guys that had a gf still in High School). We dated a year but turns out she was a cheating *****.

Welch "Hotel" Cassell Alum here. Fall 2003. Was a pretty simple move in being basically on the ground floor. As mentioned above, hot as hell in the warm seasons. One thing that will always stick out about my dorm was that someone drew a life-size dude on the ceiling. Of course, I had the loft that was positioned directly under it. Mom tried to get maintenance to paint the ceiling. A month later they finally called and said I'd have to move all my **** out and I said ef that, I'll live with it.

My roommate was only there 3 1/2 days a week too as he went back home to help with chores on the farm. So that was pretty sweet.

Helser - McDonald

My only real memory of it other than the standard teary eyed mom was building my loft.

My dad's a carpenter and he looked at the lift kits and said I can do better. He had his skillsaw out in the stairwell (no mess in the room and easier to sweep than the carpet in the hall). Air compressor and nail gun in the room.

You could have parked a car on that loft.

Perhaps he knew the caliber of girls you'd be having in that loft?:eek::smile:

Me as well. Also, did your roommate fail out? I can't believe the people that did that.

I moved into Larch Greene 2nd floor in 1990. No move in crews in those days and couldn't use elevator since the upper floor people had them locked up. Hot and sweaty, appx heat index 4,000 degrees. Trudged up & down all the stairs with my folks, but not too much stuff, maybe filled the back of a minivan. 5 minutes after they left, a 5th year senior still in the dorms, wearing a hawaiian shirt, came and offered me a Beast Lite. Good start!

Moving my son into Friley Chamberlin in 2010 was tougher, he had more stuff, bass guitars and BF amps.

Moving daughter into Wilson next week!!! We will see how that goes, kind of terrified she may pack an 18-wheeler full of her crap.

This was me except I was the high schooler and my girlfriend was the college freshman. It did not work. (I feel like that goes without saying 99% of the time.)
