Loren Meyer went back to Ruthven after the NBA. You can always go back after you do your thing.
As far as Fred goes in North Platte, that is a metropolis compared to many towns in Nebraska like Pinder.
Speak of the devil of "playing half-heartedly"...Meyer is the poster boy. Never really dedicated himself to the game, to being the best he could be, just got by on talent.
Of course, he had a lot of raw talent.
I knew someone, back in the Eighties, who was a highly touted offensive line recruit and went to Iowa. He ended up quitting football, and quietly got his degree from ISU, doing a little hunting and fishing on the side. I didn't understand it then, but as he told me, he'd truly lost his passion for the game.
To be honest, that doesn't really sound like the case here with Bevins. When all's said and done, I'll happily let him take responsibility for his own life, and move on to rooting for the next guy in a Cyclone uniform.
