Dont you have a truck...My Ford Fusion and I are still going from Ankeny. Its just a little snow brah.

dangit, why couldn't posterology have gone on. I'd have beaten you cause you'll be stuck in the ditch all weekend!

But have fun and I am jealous of everyone who is off tomorrow already.

also if the snow could hold off here till about 11 so I can drive home from a par-tay, that would be fantastic. Even better if it blows like crazy overnight and shuts down my middle of nowhere office

Nah...the thing about winter driving is to take it slow and allow yourself adequate stopping distance. The people who end up in a ditch typically do the opposite.

the problem is that even though you will be smart and do that, the morons around you will not. That's usually my experience, anyway.

Truth. You'll leave a nice sized gap between cars so you have room to stop, and some jackwagon will think that's a good spot to be swerving his car in to.

I didn't realize the storm was over yet.

I could easily be wrong, but can we wait until it actually happens to bury the weather folk?

I don't mean to portray this as an exact science, or that I'm always right, but sheesh. And I appreciate the King of Hype Cantore writing the obit, but there's still a while to go.

Jim Cantore is the man...how could you ever think different...

First flakes flying here in Ankeny at 3:21 PM. Between 2 and 3 PM my ***.

I'm in the NE corner of Ankeny and nothing yet. The good news is, my wife is working in Ames and hoping to get as much of a full day in as possible, and the way this is rolling in she might just pull it off.

I think a good place to start the bidding is 5-8". Place over/unders on that.

I'm a bit worried since this could sort of be a "dying" system, that dry air could get wrapped in on Thursday and cut stuff down.

Eastern Nebraska would get hammered. I'd probably be more comfortable getting to double digits for amounts around Omaha....maybe Atlantic/Denison/Carroll.

But this thing doesn't move onshore until Tuesday, so those numbers really don't have a lot of significance or meaning at this point.

There is still potential there for totals to go over that in Des Moines, but that's where my gut is going right now.

I seriously wish I could have a job that i can be wrong almost 95% of the time, and still keep it.

85%, no less... you happy now?

And add in the fact they over-hype any weather. It's beyond annoying.

I don't know FDWxMan any more than I know you. But I've read this whole thread since it started and everybody BUT the weather men on here were hyping this storm. If anything they were down-playing what some us were seeing on computer models.

Now, if you want to blame the brilliant people that designed all of the complex software that can allow for a prediction of any weather 10 days out, go for it, but it seems silly. But based on your posts in the past it's obvious that you are probably very good at everything you do.

fairly certain the lady behind me was texting this morning while driving like a moron. We were going 55 and I couldn't see her headlights. Then we got to two lanes and she whipped around me, the car ahead of me, and the car in the other lane doing a nice "S" in about 5 seconds. So safe!

I'm no expert, but the radar looks like a bust for most of central Iowa.

So, is this storm a flop, or is it going to get worse? - specifically in eastern iowa. Doesn't look too intimidating on radar currently. Still early though...

EDIT - KCRG still projecting 5-7 inches in Iowa City/CR area according to tweet a few minutes ago...
