I wish Elliott the best, but I hope this is the last time ISU offers him a job. I remember several years ago, when his health was very tenuous, ISU gave him a job when he probably needed it most. A few years later he left for greener pastures. He's doing the same thing again.

One can't blame him for a move from ISU to Notre Dame, but I hope it's the last time ISU offers him a safe landing spot.

My sentiments exactly. I appreciate what he's done for ISU, agree that he is a very good coach, and am glad that he is leaving with the respect of his players, but somebody else can be his fall back job from now on.

I wish him nothing but the best in the future and trust that CPR will find an excellent replacement.

I'm hoping that if he never comes back it has more to do with getting outshined by his replacement, and a lot less to do with some petty notion of not getting "used" by him.

I'm wondering if him leaving means he's tired of coaching for a team that is consistently under rated, and wishes to learn what it's like to coach for a team that is consistently over rated?

Bobby Elliott told me two years ago how happy that he was to be back in Iowa. But here he is stuck at d-backs coach until Wally retires, and even then the D-coord job might not go to him. At Notre Dame he could be promoted to D-coord in a year or two because former Hawkeye Bobby Diaco is the D-coord there and likley to move in a couple years. With at least a couple of Bob's former Hawkeye defensive players on ND's staff, the appeal of coaching with them was likely strong. I could imagine that with three former D-coords on staff at ISU, it was tough to just be a secondary coach.

Way to mess up a thread with relevant facts.

What are everyones predictions on who will replace him. Flynn is rumored to be the WR coach so that job is out of the equation.

I wish Coach Elliot the best. I know that he is a stand-up individual and believe that he's a great coach, too. Not to get into specifics, but I personally know that he's gone above "coaching duties" and made a difference with his actions.

Cool to read. These sort of things are hard to hire for. Hope others can fill the void.

If Flynn is indeed the new WR coach, then the next guy has to be a recruiter with ties to somewhere. We have lost ties to Texas and California this offseason. Flynn could possibly have some in Texas but it won't be a lot. I'm not saying Austin can't recruit, I am just saying he doesn't even approach replacing the things we have lost.

Obviously recruting is huge but when it comes to being a d-back coach in the big 12 this is a huge x and o position that can't be given to someone who is more known for recruting.

They aren't mutually exclusive.

Here are some possibilities for the new DB coach. I saw that the GA Caley just left for Eastern Illinois. I don't know much about him or if Rhoads could try to bring him back. I think the name to keep an eye on is Troy Douglas. Coached at UNC last year and worked with Wally at USF.

If BE was as good as some say, why didn't he land a job as defensive coordinator at a major college? A level transfer for a little more money is what he took. Hardly the kind of move you would expect for someone of his experience. (and the comment he is cueing up for the job in the future doesn't wash for me)

Wasn't the only reason he didn't become a head coach is because of health problems?

Rumors have Douglas to Ohio State, but that would be a good hire

I suppose one thing we have over OSU is that there he'd be sharing the DBs with Everett Withers, but here he'd have all of them himself. Maybe throw in the special teams job for him too since Messingham won't be doing that anymore.

I think we need a new recruiting coordinator as well. Thats a few extra bucks and resume material.
