If true. Coach will make a great hire. We have made great strides. As we continue to improve and can pay what the other schools can shell out, we can hope we are a destination and not a stepping stone. GO CLONES.

We need a recruiter type, not a GA after we promoted the OC in house. The secondary was probably the best part of the team. Thwe linebackers were second best.
If we are losing coaches, I'd want it to be the DB coach every time. CPR is a DB guy himself. We should always be in good shape with our defensive staff and especially DB's.
Not that it will be an easy task at all, but this is a good chance to find and even better recruiting coordinator. The big upsets ISU has gotten, upgraded facilities, and more money for us to work with should help though.

Agreed. As much as I like our recruiters and think they have gotten a lot of kids who are rated as good players or underrated and turned out to be good or really good, we haven't had a guy who can go out and get a 4 star talent that everyone knows about. That would be an elite recruiter and might be more attractive with our recent facilities upgrades.
And please don't turn this into a stars/offers/other BS type of thread. I'm just trying to make a point.

Agreed. Elliot was a top notch assistant. We should have hired him instead of Danny Mac. Elliot will be missed.
You can put bank on it... CPR has a GA starting in the near future. He was with the program the last few years. Trust me on this. He will be working with Messingham closely!
EXACTLY! He was at ISU when his health when to hell and then he was able to take time off to deal with it. ISU was more then generous about the situation and wished him the best. He was able to travel to Iowa City for his situation and ISU stood behind him as he did that. Next thing you know, he leaves.
If I were ISU I would never EVER bring him back. He doesn't give two ***** about the Cyclones. He wants a paycheck. It's that ******* simple!
I figured the guy was ready to settle down and be at one place for more than a few years, when he took the ISU job.

Bobby Elliott told me two years ago how happy that he was to be back in Iowa. But here he is stuck at d-backs coach until Wally retires, and even then the D-coord job might not go to him. At Notre Dame he could be promoted to D-coord in a year or two because former Hawkeye Bobby Diaco is the D-coord there and likley to move in a couple years. With at least a couple of Bob's former Hawkeye defensive players on ND's staff, the appeal of coaching with them was likely strong. I could imagine that with three former D-coords on staff at ISU, it was tough to just be a secondary coach.
If BE was as good as some say, why didn't he land a job as defensive coordinator at a major college? A level transfer for a little more money is what he took. Hardly the kind of move you would expect for someone of his experience. (and the comment he is cueing up for the job in the future doesn't wash for me)
I don't know, Notre Dame is still a more prestigous job than ISU, even if it's not a promotion to a coordinator. This isn't like Herman leaving a coordinator's job to get more money as a position coach.
If anything it's a good sign that our coaches are starting to get snapped up by bigger programs. With Wally and Rhoads' defensive expertise, I'd imagine they have a good shortlist of up-and-coming defensive position coaches ready to go already.
Anyone know what Ellis Hobbs is up to?
Would be cool because that guy was a good DB and loved ISU. HOWEVER since he has no major experience coaching players or recruiting, he is not what we need right now. Hopefully some day though. Great guy.
